Hour-Man ducked and weaved as best he could. If only he had asked the security teams for tear gas before most of them ran away! If only the Sandman still had his gas gun, or had built a new one! If only he had planned for barrels of fuel to be on the field of battle in advance!
So many, if only's...as the battle raged, the Mephisians and their illusions turned the fighting into chaos. No one knew if what they were still fighting was real, or even if they were fighting each other!
Soon Zatara was out of spells and seriously hurt again ((down to 1 hp)).
The Sandman was moderately hurt, but still in the battle ((down to 4 hp)).
Doris had led those who already surrendered off the field at gunpoint, avoiding anymore harm ((still at 16 hp)).
Bart's gun jammed, but he kept battling until he was seriously hurting ((down to 3 hp)).
Hour-Man was surrounded by foes and had little room to dodge. He took a good beating ((down to 9 hp)), but was giving at least as good as he got, and the ratmen and Mephisians were piling up at his feet.
Six more grueling minutes of pitched fighting ticked by -- and then, Hawkgirl appeared -- flying! She had found Hawkman's wings, and better, found Sandman's lost gas gun! She swooped in, spraying sleep gas like a crop duster.
But then -- calamity! Hawkgirl flew into a wall, a wall that couldn't possibly have been real, in the middle of the open field, and crashed to the ground ((at 0 hp))!

Hourman yells to one of the non engaged security teams to tend to hawkgirl's aid and if hourman can get to the sandman's gun he would otherwise he points the gun out to sandman. If there are bullets left he will try to shoot the mephistans. He asks Zatarra " how did you escape the snake people. Are they going to help?"
Suddenly, Hourman has an idea. The mephistans were closing their eyes and fixed on their dimestore magic, maybe sound might break this concentration. Hour-man sees if the emergency air raid horn machine is nearby and if not he asks one of the security teams to radio the tower to turn it on.

It was a sheriff's deputy who managed to get close enough to Hawkgirl first. He bravely stood his ground over her, keeping the monsters both real and imagined at bay until Sandman got there for his gun, moments before Hour-Man.
While emptying his rifle at the Mephisians (or at least where he thought they were), Hour-Man was able to get closer to Zatara and ask those questions.
"While you were away, the others did a prisoner exchange for me with the snake men. The snake men drove a hard bargain; in exchange for me and their vow to retreat deeper from the surface world, they wanted all our prisoners, to face their own 'justice'. Beyond that, they weren't willing to listen to reason."
"Listen!" Hour-Man suddenly said. "I've got it! Keep holding them back, guys!"
Hour-Man sprinted from the battlefield, no longer at super-fast speeds, but just how fast a desperate man with a desperate plan could run. He made it to the nearest hangar and called the main office. "Turn on your air raide horn! And every other siren on the property, crank their volume up as high as they'll go!"
It worked. Even hundreds of feet from the nearest hangar, the Mephisians found the sirens more painful than even the sound of gunfire. Half the monsters on the battlefield abruptly disappeared, showing them they were closer to victory than they had realized.
And then, at 12:20, the National Guard arrived. A plane swooped in, dropping explosives on the retreating rat men and Mephisians. The heroes had held the field until the battle was won!
((Anything left you want to do or say before the epilog?))

Hour-man comes back and regroups with his allies. With his science background he helps with first aid. He does say to the group, " the members of the newspaper and radio will probably not believe what just happened? In case the public ask, do we call this a training exercise? Doris what is the protocol" . He then asks Zatarra, "so what do we now do with the prisoners as I am not sure our authorities will not be happy with the arrangement?"

There was much first aid needed.
"There is no protocol for this," Doris West said. "We have encountered paranatural threats before, and recently, but this is the first time they have been witnessed by so many people. "I'm not sure how we keep this under wraps."
Zatara said, "You're referring to our monstrous prisoners? The National Guard are already taking them into custody. Gary Peirce's human followers will likely wind up in the National Guard's custody too. There is one more thing you should know about..." Zatara pulled Hour-Man aside, but motioned for the Sandman to join them too, as if the three had something conspiratorial to discuss. "When we turned our prisoners over to the snake men, Gary Peirce said something unexpected to the other one. He said 'Hurry, can't you take us to Barsoom?'"
The Sandman spoke up. "Barsoom, in case you don't read science fiction, is a name for Mars in Edgar Rice Burroughs novels. The man we captured, the one Gary was talking to, looks a lot like a Holy Thern, from the second book, Gods of Mars. So, either this guy was trying awful hard to convince Gary he was or..."
"Maybe the books are true," Zatara said, "and Barsoom is real."

Hour-man listens to the conversation and shows interest. Being an android and a being part of science fiction is interesting. He comments, " maybe we can talk to Pierce if the National guard will give us access. Otherwise we do need to rest and heal up ourselves. This may be be a story for another day. It has been excellent meeting all of you and working together. I would like to continue to do this in the future. "

"I don't think we could have done it without you," the Sandman said.
In the coming days, the heroes split up to convalesce, but they all had a phone number they could use to contact Bart Regan, who could relay information to the rest of the team.
No one had walked out of that hideout with any new trophies, but they were all paid $500 for services rendered to the government (Hour-Man understood that the American Air Works had actually put up most of that money).
((Except for possibly some epilogue material, session 3 is over. Does Hour-Man return to Appleton City?))

As plain old human Rex Tyler, Rex drove back home to the Big Apple. His apartment in the city was a welcome sight after that stressful mission in West Virginia. Although a chemist by day, his apartment was strewn with his hobby mechanical apparatuses, including his collection of beloved radios.
He had picked up a copy of the Appleton Times on his way in to make sure they were still publishing his classified ad. Anyone who say it, and needed help from Hour-Man, would send a letter to his P.O. Box, and he vowed to check it in the morning as he slipped off his shoes and unpacked his bags.
((I'd like to you to start giving some thought to this Hour-Man's backstory. Does he know he's an android? Does he know who made him?))

( I found the Android version on dcfandom and will using a modified version)
Rex tyler was created in the 83th century by a future by Tylerco. Why he was created Rex never really new the whole story but that one of the new Gods requested he be made and be a version of Rex tyler. His powers were originally from advanced nanite materials. He was sent back in time to assist the ancestor Rex. THe arrival in Rex's lab proved catastrophic and the original Rex tyler miracle drug badly reacted with the time stream entry of the android Rex. The chemical fused the nanite powers into the amulet the android is wearing. This creates the hour of power restriction. The resulting accident though kills the human Rex. This happens in late 1939. The android Rex distraught and now trapped in the 1940 time area, assumes Rex identity and also to carry on his work. He hopes to one day return to his time period.
(OOC this happens before the human Rex meets his wife and before his son Rick (modern Hour-man) is born)
