Retreating back the way they came, the heroes returned to the ceremonial pit chamber -- only to find it inhabited this time!
A Mephisian (the devil men), 3 rat-men, and 2 hooded cultists were standing in the room now. One of the cultists was holding a lamp. The other cultist was hollering at everyone and the creatures were cowering from him. And that was when the cultists spotted the heroes!
"It's them!" the hollering cultist shouted. "Get them! Kill them!"

Hourman realizes that the time is now, He grasps his amulet and activates "get tough" and moves to attack one of the cultists

The two sides rushed to attack each other, but Doris Evans was the first to fall -- when chains suddenly appeared wrapped tight around her!
One of the rat-men rushed Doris and smacked her hard with a club ((6 dmg)). The other two met Hawkgirl, who had been charging them. She jumped over one, pushing it to the floor, but got smacked by the other one for a glancing blow ((1 dmg)).
The cultist with the lamp threw it on the floor -- and as it shattered, green flame launched across the floor out of it, right past Bart and caught his pantleg on fire ((4 dmg)). The green fire then circled back, seeking out another victim.
The remaining hooded cultist stepped back and said: "Keep at them! Finish them off! I order you!" Sandman, who had previously been only pistol whipping with those semi-automatics, drew one gun and the sword he'd just picked up, but then paused, staring at the sword.
Bart Regan pistol whipped the rat man who hit Doris and knocked the wiry little guy unconscious.
Hawkgirl was defending herself with her machete, but only holding her own.
Doris got up. "Watch out for the Mephisian!" she shouted, her eyes closed. "He made me see chains all over me!"
Hour-Man, his powers activated, stabbed the Mephisian ((10 dmg)). It was a moderate injury, but the Mephisian was very surprised by it.

Seeing the combat turn a little bad he activates nigh-invulnerable skin and then attacks the mephistain

Hour-Man's prediction proved accurate.
Sandman tried to strike with his new sword, but he seemed unusually clumsy with it.
Doris thought the best combination of offense and defense against the Mephisian was to close her eyes while rushing him - but she tripped and stumbled over a rat-man's long tail instead.
Bart had his sub-machine gun leveled, but couldn't get a clear shot at anyone but the cultist who had smashed the lantern on the floor. He took three shots and seriously wounded the cultist.
Hour-Man tried to stab again, but saw his sword strike a wall of ice that sprang up in front of the Mephisian. Though, that too was probably just an illusion!
Hawkgirl was still on the defensive, fending off both remaining rat-men. One of them clubbed her in the stomach ((1 dmg)) and she doubled over, seriously hurt.
The green flame came racing across the floor, this time running over Hour-Man's feet ((for 1 damage)).
A third rat-man ran into the room from the south entrance!

Hourman tries to manuever around the wall and attack the rat men hitting hawkgirl. As he moves he activates his "raise the train" power for added speed, defences and attacks

((Race the Train is an or, not an and power. It lets Hour-Man move faster, or get -1 to AC, or get an extra non-attack action per turn. You choose which one you want from turn to turn.))

Hourman will use the speed Tofor defenses (ac) try to step between the ratman and hawkgirl ( try to block the attack) and then attack one of the ratman. ( if I need the speed or the extra non attack to do this manuever that is fine too, more or less shielding the attack)

Bart Regan opened fire on the rat-man that just came into the room and, four bullets later, that rat-man was bleeding out on the floor.
Hour-Man raced in front of Hawkgirl, shielding her, which left her free to stab one of the rat-men under Hour-Man's arm, seriously injuring the rat-man ((2 dmg)). Hour-Man followed up with his own sword, slashing the injured rat-man deep and sending it sprawling on the floor ((9 dmg)).
Sandman and Doris West were stuck on the defensive.
There was one injured Mephisian, one uninjured rat-man, one injured cultist, and the cultist who seemed to be their leader left.
The rat-man tried to run out of the melee, but Hour-Man stabbed it in the back ((10 dmg)) and it collapsed to the floor.
The injured cultist bolted.
"Get back here, you coward!" the cult leader screamed. He had no cover anymore, and stood exposed at the back of the room, near the pit.
Just then a giant tentacled thing rose out of the pit!

Hourman stops and tries to put his jaw back to his mouth seeing this thing. Then he remembered the illusion power of the mephistan, but this could be real. He says, " someone get the cultist. I am going after the leader." Hourman concentrates and activates Nigh invulnerable skin power and then uses his speed to close the distance to the leader.
(OOC the room was lit by lamps or urns. I know when we rescued the JSA in the pit there was something Hourman combusted on the floor is there another cannister?)

((The room is very dimly lit now; there are two of the heroes' flashlights which, I'm guessing, got sat on the floor before combat. The bad guys had one lamp, but that was shattered and now there's just some magic green flame on the floor from it, and that is starting to sputter out.
((Hour-Man already activated Nigh-Invulnerable Skin in turn 2. He currently has Get Tough, Nigh-Invulnerable Skin, and Race the Train activated.
((There were never any canisters in this room. Last time, Hour-Man had raced back to the bedroom, where there was a kerosene keg in the alcove, and then raced back and threw it. There was only the one keg in the alcove.
((Hour-Man fails his save vs. plot and cannot confront the "boss bad guy" while underlings are still threatening him. At least for this turn.))
The Sandman was still flailing about with that sword like he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
Hour-Man wanted to deal with the leader, but that Mephisian was still too dangerous to leave behind him around. He stabbed it again with his sword, this time leaving it seriously wounded ((4 dmg)).
Doris West pistol-whipped the Mephisian, not very hard, but it was hard enough given its injuries ((2 dmg)) and it went down, unconscious.
Bart Regan unloaded the remainder of the clip in his sub-machine gun into the huge tentacled monster, but it seemed to have no effect on it - until the Mephisian dropped and then the monster just disappeared.
Hawkgirl, the first one free from the battle, raced over (as fast as she could race while limping) to the remaining cultist with her machete raised high.
"STOP!" shouted a commanding voice.
The man in gray robes with the long, wavy blonde hair appeared at the south entrance of the room, his hand glowing with a light that illuminated the room better than any other light in it. This time, he did have a shadow.
"There is no more need for violence," the now-shadowed man said. "He surrenders."
"What? No! You can still stop them!" the hooded cult leader said.
"I gave you every tool you needed to conquer the world, and you squandered them on sabotaging your own workplace. I have wasted enough time on you."

After putting down the mephistan he moves with his speed to the man with the blond hair. He stops and says, " that surrender order goes for you too? Your men have caused threats to the workers above, taken prisoners and killed two people. There is also another species living down here too, serpent people, that has to be resolved well. With that said who are you exactly?"

"Who I am is the least of your concerns," the mystery man answered, without appearing taken aback that Hour-Man was so quickly up in his face. "No longer content with subtle sabotage, your prisoner ordered his troops to mass on the surface and assault the airplane factory at midnight. You have two hours left to figure out how to prevent a massacre of your people."

Hour-man sighs and says to the others, " we got to warn the troops. Doris you have more credentials then I have, with my enhanced speed I can carry you and make it back to the base hq. Unless you think we could interrogate our prisoner to get more information in time and also find a radio we could transmit the warning. "
(question to editor: since this is the second run for hourman with his race the train ability could he carry Doris and run her back to the base admin ability with the remaining rounds left?)

((Yes, you do. Remember, once you're out of combat turns extend from 1-minute combat turns to 10-minute exploration turns, so you're super-fast for awhile.))
