"I'll fly up to the roof," said Desmo. "If I find a way in, I'll come back fly you guys up one by one. I think with just the three of us, it might be best to stick together when checking on the suspicious apartment."

Hour-Man and Captain Hawkman(and Sandman) Monday May 22, 1940, 6:07 pm Philadelphia Corner of S 21st Street and Lombard Street
There was indeed a roof access door, unguarded and apparently unsecured. Pigeons flew off the roof at Captain Hawkman's descent to the roof.
There was no skylight. Captain Hawkman tested the door and it did not even feel to be locked. Too easy?
One by one, he ferried Hour-Man and Sandman up to the roof.
The door was opened, and stairs were found going down - but instead of a stairwell going all the way down to the ground floor, the stairs only went down to the fourth floor and stopped. This was not up to any building code!
At the bottom of the stairs was an unusually wide, 10' wide, corridor heading north into the building. There was no illuminated EXIT sign over the door, but there were light bulb fixtures running down the ceiling. The wattage was low and the fixtures were spaced out enough to give the windowless hallway just a dim, shadowy glow. The walls were painted beige and stained in many places, while the floor was a greasy olive tile.
20' up the hallway was a door to either side, and the hallway continued past them for another 20' ((45' altogether)) to a four-way intersection. ((Map coming soon, but I'll take intentions first. Welcome to our first hideout crawl in a while!))

Hour-man as he enters the hallway whispers, " we should take this slowly and be on our guard. Sandman you have probably better infiltration skills then we do. Wanna scout ahead? We should check the doors first for noise and see if these are locked. let's avoid kicking in doors"
(OOC Scott my hour of power is available as we have been in philly for a couple of days? Also are we healed up?)

Desmo reaches in one pocket to make sure his tools are ready - especially his handful of gumballs.
"Let's listen at the doors on the right and left," said Desmo. "If things are quiet, maybe try and open one door at a time. Maybe let's start with the door on the right."

Hour-Man and Captain Hawkman(and Sandman) Monday May 22, 1940, 6:08 pm Philadelphia Corner of S 21st Street and Lombard Street
Hour-Man heard nothing behind the door to the left (W) and Captain Desmo heard nothing behind the door to the right (E).
The Sandman snuck ahead and checked the 4-way intersection. He came back and whispered, "One more door to the west, two more doors to the north, and one more door to the east."

"I'd like to know which doors and unlocked," said Desmo. "Maybe we can surprise some hoods or just keep a few options to hide if we need it. Let me check the door on the first door on the right, and maybe Hour-man the first door on the left. We can work our way up and also look for clues or some connection to the armored truck robbery even if we don't find any un-American thugs."

Hour-Man and Captain Hawkman(and Sandman)Monday May 22, 1940, 6:19 pm Philadelphia Corner of S 21st Street and Lombard Street The three Heroes snuck very carefully down the hallways until they had a sense of where every door was that they did not have to go through yet. They had yet to hear from any of the rooms, but they had a feeling they were not alone on this floor... ((Yes, everyone has healed up to full and Hour-Man has his full hour of power to use.))

Once they got the layout hourman suggests, " well lets start at the beginning and pick the door to the left closest to the exit. better to keep any opponents in front of us. Also if it gets a little overwhelming we could call the police. "
(OOC did hour-man see a pay phone on the street or near the building or maybe an emergency box/police box)

"Good idea," agreed the Cap. "Let's get started."

Hour-Man and Captain Hawkman(and Sandman) Monday May 22, 1940, 6:20 pm Philadelphia Corner of S 21st Street and Lombard Street
Hour-Man thought back to what he saw in the streets on the way here. He knew there was a phonebooth on this block, but he saw no police callbox.
The Heroes backtracked towards the stairs and tried the door on the left. It opened easily and quietly onto a short hallway, 20' long, ending in another door. This hallway had no lights in it, so light was visible under the next door. None of them heard sound on the other side of the door, though. They tried the door and...
Three men were waiting for them on the other side! The men were dressed in disheveled dress shirts and slacks with suspenders, and armed with truncheons! They occupied a lightly furnished room 12' x 17'.
((No surprise on either side, combat intentions?))

Hourman thinks we can handle these guys does not activate his powers. He will try to engage one of them and try to wreck the truncheon as a sign of power and intimidation.

The Cap thought of using his gun, but the sound might attract unwanted attention. Instead, he threw a handful of gumballs on the ground in front of them, partly as a distraction and partly to see if any of them was dumb enough to trip. Then he rushed the closest one with his boot knife and fists.

Hour-Man and Captain Hawkman(and Sandman) Monday May 22, 1940, 6:22 pm Philadelphia Corner of S 21st Street and Lombard Street
Hour-Man went into melee against a hoodlum with a moustache, with his open palms raised. He waited for his opponent's swing, grabbed the truncheon as it came for him, and snapped it in half.
Captain Desmo went into melee against a hoodlum with a striped shirt, with gumballs on the floor and a knife in his right hand. The gumballs did not prove effective. He took a wild swing with the knife to distract the truncheon, then followed up with a left jab that was his actual intended attack. It connected, but a glancing hit ((1 dmg)).
The Sandman had his gas gun in hand, but went into melee against a hoodlum with scar on his cheek, with a kick to the knee. If it had been intended to knock his opponent prone, it failed, but still caused some injury ((1 dmg - geez)).
They were cowardly hoodlums - Hour-Man's foe fainted on the spot. The other two looked very nervous and glanced about for an exit. There was a door in the south wall of the room, but neither moved for it, standing their ground instead.
Both Captain Desmo and the Sandman got clubbed back with truncheons, but it wasn't anything they couldn't take ((2 dmg each)).
Emboldened, the hoodlums kept swinging. Captain Desmo easily blocked his opponent this time, but Sandman took another hit that almost knocked the gun out of his hand ((5 dmg!)).
Hour-Man switched to Captain Desmo's foe, grasping his truncheon in mid-air and snatching it out of the man's hand and breaking it over his knee.
Captain Desmo switched to Sandman's foe - easily, in the close quarters - and cut him with his knife, but not deep ((1 dmg again - what the?)).
Sandman hit his opponent too, with the butt of his gun ((2 dmg, finally!)), and it was enough to knock the man unconscious.
The last man standing - he fainted too.
((I know you gave me intentions for 1 turn, but it was over in 2.))
The room, such as it was, was secure. There were three chairs around a folding table and a card game had been in progress on it. There was a calendar on the wall and, on an end table against the wall, a small clock, two packs of cigarettes, and an unopened beer bottle.

Hourman stopped and searched the men for identification. He took the remaining truncheon for a weapon. He says, " sandman we should get that looked at. Does anyone have a first aid kit?"

"Oh, I knew I forgot something!" said the Captain. "If Gabby were here, he would have reminded me... Well let's take a look Sandman. Can you stand? We can at least wrap the cut and bruises..."
The Cap also ripped a few strips of cloth off of one of the prone lackey's shirts on the ground to use as bandage and handed them to Hour-man, and then he ripped more strips off of another to tie them up (hands, feet, and mouth gag). Once done, he gathered up his poor gumballs (and made a point of remembering these were not good to eat).
"Let's check their pockets too," said Cap. "And if any these wannabes comes around soon, we can ask them some intimidating questions..."
