Hourman has faced illusions before back in the underground airport adventure, but this man is a pro. Hourman says to Zatarra " I can try to level another section of the floor if this place has a basement. For now lets get u to safety. Unless you have a spell that can deal with the snakes. "
Hourman will grab zatarra and head to an exit. Does the room they are in have a big sheet like a pool table cover or a big tablecloth as Hourman has an idea.
( since Hourman leveled the floor is there an exit? Outside? IF Outside has any neighbors noticed?)

Captain Hawkman and Hour-Man (and Zatara) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Lower East Side Grand Street 4:39 pm (new turn 1)
Captain Hawkman swooped down into the room, passing through one of the eight Spectres - which blinked once, and then vanished, leaving seven.
Hour-Man and Zatara made a fighting withdrawal into another room ((HM did not seem to do much structural damage to the outside wall, so it is still intact)). Zatara said, "Perhaps this spell will help..." and he cast something, while waving his silver dagger around in the air.
Between Hour-Man and Zatara and the pursuing snakes were three eagles that swooped and clawed at the snakes (luckily there was lots of vertical space now thanks to Hour-Man making it into a two-story room!). The snakes were distracted and hissed menacingly at the eagles. Hour-Man was within sight of the dining room from here (this was a hallway between the dining room and the wrecked room) and it did indeed have a large tablecloth in it. Hour-Man pulled off the tablecloth and...
((Ugh, sorry for another multi-day delay!))

HOurman then runs into the room and tries to throw it on the spectres. The hope it will determine who is the correct spectre is as the table cloth should pass through the images

Captain Hawkman and Hour-Man (and Zatara) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Lower East Side Grand Street 4:40 pm (turn 2)
Captain Hawkman swung his fists through another Spectre, missing the real one. Hour-Man came running in with the tablecloth and watched as it fell through three of them, dispelling them. There were three Spectres left.
While the eagles kept most of the snakes distracted, one large Boa came seconds away from coiling around Hour-Man from behind, but he leapt away in time.
"Hold!" the Spectre called out in a booming voice. He gestured, and the four snakes all disappeared. "I wished none of you any real harm, but merely wished to chase you away so I could pursue justice. But your devotion to justice is as great as my own. And so, out of respect for that, I have decided to yield my prisoner to you. Let him face your justice. Someday, he will face mine, but it need not be today."
With the snakes gone, Zatara ended his own spell and the eagles disappeared.

With those words, a relieved Hawkman flew quickly up to see if the butler was still there. If so, he would tie him up and gag him for questioning and to allow for a proper search of the premises.

Hourman stands down and comments, " Sorry about the fall had to defend ourselves and separate the combat. We will make sure the butler pays for his crimes. Maybe one day we can work together as a team. My name is Hourman. This is Zatarra and you met Captain Hawkman. "

Captain Hawkman and Hour-Man (and Zatara) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Lower East Side Grand Street 4:45 pm
Captain Hawkman found the butler, still unable to move, where he left him.
Meanwhile, the Spectre said, "I could see myself working with you someday, if our agendas are not at odds. If you ever need to reach me in an emergency, I have a human point of contact (the Spectre did not emphasize the word human, but it's very inclusion was telling) you can reach out to me through in an emergency. Ask for a Detective Jim Corrigan, recently transferred from the Cleveland Police.
"Something else you should know," the Spectre continued. "The owner of this house is innocent; the butler planned the robbery based on information he overheard here and reached out to criminals to carry it out. I leave it to you to decide if you wish to contact the police yourself, or wait for the owner to come home."
By now, Captain Hawkman had descended to rejoin the others with his being-discussed prisoner.
"I will take my leave of you now," the Spectre said. He touched the collar of his hood again, spoke some strange words -- and disappeared.
"Theatric," Zatara said a minute later. "His inhuman appearance is probably another illusion. He is not as powerful as he lets on. He did not teleport away; he turned invisible and just walked out of here."

"Well, thanks for sorting that out, fellows" said Desmo. "Glad to hear he was on the side of good after all... Now about this butler... He admitted to me planning a crime."
"So buddy," said Desmo pointedly at the butler. "Like I said, you cooperate we'll make it easier, but if you don't, we'll make sure the police throw away the key. Now what's your name butler and then tell us the full story."

Hourman asks Zatarra, "so not exactly parlor tricks or stage magic tricks with the Spectre. You never heard of him? Wonder if we should look up this detective Corrigan or have our agent in the government look him up?" Hourman goes back up the stairs to where Desmo is. He keeps watch looking for reinforcements or the police.

Captain Hawkman and Hour-Man (and Zatara) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Lower East Side Grand Street 4:50 pm
Hour-Man went upstairs where Captain Hawkman had been, watching for reinforcements, but then when none came he returned downstairs to rejoin the others.
The blubbering butler told all, confirming everything the Heroes already knew. His nae was Cliff Hawkins. He was the butler of Vito Denola, president of De Nola Textiles. Hawkins, out to make a quick buck for himself, found out the schedule and route for when an armored car would be taking money from Denola's factory to the bank and hired these men to rob it. But Hawkins did not have the privacy to call the robbers or contact them more obviously, so he wrote the time and location for the job in invisible ink on a shirt and had a laundry service deliver it to George Bentley, his co-conspirator. Feeling he was owed money ("I worked for Vito like a slave for 10 years!"), had just heard about the failed robbery and was contemplating what to do when the Spectre appeared.
((Most of this you've already known since Sept. 20, back on page 5 of this thread.))
Now almost 15 minutes since Hour-Man collapsed the billiard room floor, a police siren could be heard in the distance.
Zatara said quietly, "I have been, um, holding onto a charm spell I could use on Hawkins here, if you think he's holding anything back on us..."

Hourman says to Zatarra " if he does not sing like a canary when the police arrive you might have too. Of course if he doesn't we can always call the Spectre"

"Well, anything more would get us that much closer to flushing out Akhim," said Desmo lighting his pipe. "I'd say, Zatara, good man, give your charm spell a shot on the butler."

Captain Hawkman and Hour-Man (and Zatara) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Lower East Side Grand Street 5:00 pm
Zatara cast his spell, but it didn't work. "He's too terrified to charm," Zatara said. "I need him calmer. I could try again tomorrow, if we can get to him..."
Not long after that, the police arrived. At Captain Hawkman's threat about bringing back the Spectre, Cliff Hawkins blubbered, "No, not that! I'll tell them everything right now!" Since the paralysis was wearing off, Hawkins fell to the ground and wormed his way towards the police so he could confess faster.
The police recognized the heroes from their descriptions given at the thwarted robbery earlier. The police seemed unsure what to do about the vigilantes, but leaned towards a positive reaction. They mainly talked to Zatara, having apparently decided he was the leader. "We'd like you to stay until we've had a chance to talk to the homeowner, Mr. Denola."
