Captain Desmo and Hour-Man Tuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Flatiron District Bentley Wholesalers 4:16 PM
A short distance away, Rex and Captain Desmo were able to look over the slips of paper. One looked like a grocery list, another one had used tic-tac-toe grids scratched out, another just had scribbles...but the most important piece of paper had four names on it, two of which seemed familiar:
Lytell Department Store Druff's Tailors Helen Frick
And, written hastily on the side of the paper, Genghis Ahkim.

Rex heads to a phone booth where there is a phone book and asks the captain, " any of these names look familiar to you." While asking he tries to looks up the tailor shop and helen frick.

"Genghis Ahkim!" exclaimed the Captain. "Why that's the dastardly Mongol criminal mastermind I tried to follow from India! He leads a dangerous band of assassins, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had a large hand in the Lyell attack. I'm his sworn enemy from my missions in Mongolia that eventually got him apprehended. But, somehow he's escaped jail with a vendetta against me and any decent patriot 'merican. He is a dangerous man, Hour Man, a dangerous man..."

Rex found a phonebooth with a book intact. Yes, Druff's Tailors had a listed number, and was on the south end of this very neighborhood. Helen Frick was not listed, but there was a Bertha, Eleanor, Ford, Grace, Kate, Leslie, M, and Robert Frick's in the phonebook.

Rex says," I will help you stop this villain. So want to check out the tailor shop down the street or bust in this store. If we wait until late tonight though my mystical powers will reset."

"I don't fully know your powers, son," said Desmo. "But It's best to act when you're strongest. With Genghis Ahkim mixed in with these mobsters, we might get caught in a rough fight. If you feel strong now, let's go to the tailor's. If you're strong later, I might check in on Jack and Hobbes - but in-person - not by phone."

Rex says " my mystical powers are usable only once a day and it lasts for an hour. Otherwise I have my normal fighting and science skills. Lets go visit the tailor shop and then see Jack and hobbes. Lets come back here tonight unless we get better news."

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man Tuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Flatiron District Druff's Tailors 4:40 PM
Druff's was a small tailor's shop wedged between two larger storefronts. The man inside looked to be in his 40's and Jewish and was helping a customer who looked to be 90-year old man, who was modeling a brown suit for the tailor while he made measurements.
Everything seemed to be on the up and up here. The old man even wanted to make conversation. He noticed Captain Desmo's aviator helmet, which everyone else had been choosing to ignore recently. "You're a flyer? I used to be a hot air balloonist with the Signal Corps."

Rex looks around the shop a bit and moves to the front counter. He asks " hey I am looking for a suit or tuxedo for a wedding I am attending. Do I make an appointment to come out and look?" While he asks this he looks at the counter for any business cards from the evil wholesaler or any clues

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man Tuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Flatiron District Druff's Tailors 4:45 PM
Rex saw no clues out in the open, but as they all spent the next five more minutes chit-chatting, Alex and Yosel alluded twice to there being trouble in the neighborhood, but did not want to say more.

Rex coyly asks " look we are considering opening our own sporting store and found a place down the street. If there is trouble what is the trouble?"

"A hot air balloonist with the Signal Corps, sir!" said Captain Desmo shaking his hand evidently very impressed. "Captain Desmo. A pleasure to meet you. I was recently doing contract work for the British Army in India. Finally, back home. How are things? The neighborhood around here still nice? Any troubles?"

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man Tuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Flatiron District Druff's Tailors 4:50 PM
Rex's gambit produced more minutes of chatter about what business was like in the area, but still only hints that there was something wrong in the neighborhood. Neither man wanted to come right out and say it, but they he was warned to "be careful who you do business with." Any attempts to pry more information out of them led to awkward shifts in subject.
The older man - he was the one named Yosel - was delighted to talk about military service, but also shied away from specifics of the neighborhood trouble. The way he kept glancing towards the shopkeeper made it seem like he was being silent to protect Alex the Tailor.
((Updated, because CD's post came in around the same time as I was writing my last one. Do you keep trying to work them for information, go back to check on Hobbs and Jack, check with Doris West's office on back-up, or wait until after midnight to raid the Wholesalers?))
