The leading Man found nothing valuable in the rags on the first two bodies...but the third, the oldest, was a strange thing indeed. That dead man seemed almost half-animal, with his twisted limbs, fangs, and claws.

The Leading Man examined this third corpse more closely. What kind of claws and fangs did it bear? Did they resemble any animal he might recognize?

The Leading Man found they were not simply the claws and fangs of some animal grafted on. This was some kind of weird, mutant human with natural (or unnatural, depending on how you looked at it) claws and fangs of its own.

Howard keeps guard looking around this room for secret doors or niches.

"Lem" approached the first exit from the room and listened carefully. He would repeat the procedure at each of the other exits too before deciding where to go next.

The Cabalist spent 10 minutes searching the perimeter of the chamber and found nothing. The Leading Man listened at the north door, the south door, and the southeast passageway. He could see the southeast passageway quickly ended in a door. He could not hear anything from the north or southeast, but from the south he heard both a humming sound and people's voices talking. Captain Avenger went to hear at the same doors that the Leading Man did.

Captain Avenger heard the same drone-like hum from both the north and south doors. By the time he got to the south door, though, the voices had stopped.

"Lem" fell silent and motioned for the others to gather at the south door. Once they were there he took out his pistol and made sure everyone was ready before he threw open/burst through the door into the room beyond with his gun up and ready.

The Leading Man burst through the door, with The Cabalist right behind him.
To the south was a large chamber, 50' long and 70' wide, with a 20' high ceiling. It was a barracks with eight broken-down bunk beds and plenty of open space where there probably used to be more. There were two tables with benches, and the northeast corner was marked off by a row of long boxes, with only a barrel and an old stove in the corner.
As flashlights fell around the room, they landed on four, five -- no, six people! And not dead people from a century ago. These were live people, all men, dressed like they'd just come out to the countryside for a long hike. Of them, one was obviously wearing a shoulder holster. Five of them were around the south half of the room, where they'd been watching something flying around the room on a chain. The sixth was seated at one of the tables.
"Hey! Who are you!" one of the men to the south shouted out when they saw you.

The caballist steps as side allowing the rest of the agents to step through. He looks to the leading man to "break the ice"

Two of the mobsters hung back, confused, but the one with an obvious gun moved for cover and was ready for a firefight. The remaining three dove for beds like they planned to climb underneath them to hide.
Captain Avenger got off a shot first, hitting the gunman in the ribs; the gunman dropped his gun and collapsed.
It looked like the battle was already over -- but the three men diving for their beds were actually pulling rifles out from underneath them...

The caballist uses the wall aND door for cover to let the other agents through so the caballist will be in the room not with the mobsters.
