Hourman comments, " the bomb fragmants might have chemical residue and or determine how it is made or if there have been other cases of bombs made to see if there is a signature. There might be remains of a label to see where the plastic was made. I donlt have an assistant as I normally work alone, until my recent teamup with the Justice society and now you. "
He asks Doris. " if any of the team is available for assistance that would be great. Doris would you like to meet Captain Desmo here another stand up guy who can answer any questions you might have with his situation?" Hourman has the phone ready to pass over

"Hello Doris?" said Captain Desmo. Desmo explained his work in Mongolia and about the assassins he was trailing from India, and why they have a vendetta against him and their plans in Appleton. He finally connected the assassins and the gang behind the bombing by explaining how his Auntie Marie Smith was taken hostage.

Captain Desmo and Hour-ManTuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City The phonebooth near Lytell's Department Store "Agent West, please," Doris said, correcting Captain Desmo for being to informal. But then she listened patiently to his story, even while the long distance charges racked up. "I'll see what I can do to send you help," she said at last. "We can use Mr. Lytell as your local go-between. Good luck!" Later Bannerman Chemical Labs It was Rex Tyler's day off, so everyone was surprised to see him come into work, especially with a man in an aviator's helmet and goggles coming with him. "Hi, Rex!" "Good afternoon, Mr. Tyler!" his coworkers were saying. Good thing he had already entrusted Captain Desmo with his secret identity... Captain Desmo had never been in an industrial chemistry lab before. He had imagined a mad laboratory like the 1931 Frankenstein movie, replete with Tesla coils, but it was actually bright, white, and amazingly clean and tidy, more like a classroom (see attachment for an example). With the equipment at his disposal here, it only took Rex 14 minutes to verify that the explosive was smokeless powder, a form of gunpowder that was widely available. The bomb had been inside a pipe. The pipe was common pipe, even more widely available. On the inside edge of the pipe, though, he found about 70% of an intact fingerprint.

During the test, Rex makes sure to run this without his nosey co-worker being present. Hour-man will try to get the fingerprint better exposed and whispers, " we will need to get this to the authorities and see if they have this on record. Sending this to Agent West will take more time. " Rex finishes up his last minute notes and says, " lets drop this off to the police and want to go check out this store as customer and do a little stakeout. ?"

((Nosy coworker, John Finch, was in fact snooping around. Did Captain Desmo need to run interference and keep him out of the room...?))

Captain Desmo noticed a coworker of Hourman's hovering about near (John Finch) the room. This John Finch wouldn't leave the area, pretending to organize papers and even humming to himself, and obviously peering in trying to stay close watch what Hourman was doing.
After a minute of this nonsense came up to him.
"Say, pal," said Desmo. "I'm stuck here till may cousin's done work. You guys have any good cups of java around here? Say do you like the Appleton Dodgers? ((doesn't wait for Finch's reply)) Once when I was a kid, and this is a really interesting story, I there was one really amazing game..."
From there, Desmo will hopefully keep Finch distracted and try to natter on about baseball with long yarns a while (which is easy for Desmo) to distract him.

In between looking at the compound test, Rex says, " john this is my cousin Joe he wanted to see what I do for a living. I can vouch for him. Can you do me a favor and show him around the facility? Normally I would but I am busy with a minor experiment to give my cousin here an example of what we do. This is a harmless and quick experiment and nothing top secret, simple chemistry that does not require any assistance. John if you can show him around I will owe you a favor ok?"

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man
Tuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Bannerman Chemical Labs
"Hmm," John Finch said, "Letting family into the labs is highly irregular..." His face was screwed up somewhere between looking angry and annoyed, but that was all he said about it.
In between hearing Captain Desmo prattle on about baseball, John did hear Rex ask him to give his "cousin" a tour. John sighed, led Captain Desmo as far as the vending machine, and then said, "Well, I have ...something to do..." and he tried to wander off.
((Is the plan next to:
-Keep an eye on John Finch? -Take the bomb evidence to the police? -Go stake out Lytell's Department Store? -Investigate Bentley Wholesalers? -Check in on Jack Smith? -Check in on Hobbs? -Go looking for trouble? -Let time pass? ...or anything else I missed?))

Captain Desmo deliberately fumbled with a handful of round and very hard gumball machine suckers in the shape of small marbles called 'jawbreakers' and they go all over the floor. "Oh rats! What am I going to do?" exclaimed Desmo loudly trying to sound convincingly panicked. "Say good man! I seem to be in a bit of a spot. Could you lend me a hand here? I have a rare 1862 Indian Rupee coin I intended to trade for my work that rolled under the vending machine... It's priceless..." Desmo hopes the ruse will work, and that even better John will step on the 'jawbreakers' and slip and fall. At any time, if Hour-Man shows up, he can suddenly produce the 'lost' coin (a coin he actually does carry for good luck from his travels) from his pocket and apologize profusely to the 'good' fellow. ((After getting out of the building hopefully without too much mishap - Desmo hopes to reconnoiter with Hour-man about the above options...))

Once the experiment is finished, Rex motions for the captain to leave. Once outside Rex suggests, " Lets go to the police and give them the fingerprint evidence. I will have to change into my costume. It will take the police time to figure out anyway. I can have Agent West look into the print as well but would have to take a photograph and mail it to her but this would take some time but she may have a friend in the government office in New York to help us out. Then lets get some lunch as well. Then lets check in on your friend Jack Smith and Hobbs. Then tonight want to stake out the wholesalers? Maybe enter unoticed to look for clues? Sounds like a plan?"

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man
Tuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Bannerman Chemical Labs
Sure enough, John Finch did slip on the jawbreakers and fall on the floor, with a satisfying "BONK!" sound effect.
1 pm Appleton City Midtown South Precinct Station
Hour-Man drove the two of them to see the police at the station nearest the department store, expecting they would know the most about the case. However, neither had built up a reputation for crime fighting in Appleton yet that impressed the police.
"How do we know this print came from the department store?" the desk sergeant asked. "And what was the name of the detective on the scene that handed crime scene evidence over to you...?" he was ready to start jotting down names of officers who were in trouble now.
((Don't bother searching; I didn't name the officers at the time. If you want to say who they were, just say you tell the man. How long do you want to spend trying to win the desk sergeant over? Or is Captain Desmo going to trip him with jawbreakers?))

"Hang on a minute," said Desmo quickly grabbing a vending machine coffee (this time for real) and giving it to the Sergeant. "Sir, I just want to say that I really admire all the fine work you guys do to keep Appleton safe. I was reluctant to reveal my identity, but I now need to properly introduce myself. I am Captain D, US Army Intelligence. (Super quickly flashes his 1862 Indian Rupee as his 'badge') My colleague and I are here because we really think we can find the culprits behind this horrible incident at Lytell's. The assassins who did this are not only anti-American, but they are bottom feeders Sergeant. If they hit another store or public place - who knows - maybe even a ball park, it could be me, you, or someone who falls victim to these heinous criminals. And I want to do anything I can to help stamp them out. There was a lot of chaos on the scene at Lytell's, and Appleton's finest raced to save people's lives. Getting any evidence was very hard and it was not the police's priority at the time, but this is what we got. I am appealing to you as a fellow patriot, Sergeant, to help identify these fingerprints. I know the fingerprints won't mean much to a lawyer or judge, but to an investigator - this could be a really important lead. The worst that could happen is we get a false lead... What do you say sir?"
The Captain sticks his hand out to shake the desk Sergeant's hand to seal the deal. (If the Sergeant refuses, Desmo may have to 'accidentally' spill his coffee on his papers on his desk out of pure vindictiveness! After which, Desmo will ask more about this Agent West lead, and call Jack Smith and Hobbes.)

Hourman in costume of course, lets the captain "take the lead on this" and waits for the sergeant response. Afterwards we will check on Smith and Hobbes.
(OOC: Scott, agent west works for army intelligence or FBI? There should be a branch office in NY right?)

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man
Tuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Midtown South Precinct Station
((Yikes, a 2 for that encounter reaction check!))
Desk Sergeant O'Connor actually got mad and butted in before Captain Desmo got out "The worst that could happen."
"What's this mularkey you're feeding me? You come in dressed for a masquerade ball like a pair of dandies, claim to be Army Intelligence, and tell me a wild story about international assassins? Right - into the interrogation room, the both of ya! Bannon, Featherston, escort these two men, get me their fingerprints -- and take those fool hats and hoods off of them!"
