Hourman says "great scott what was that. If you have any emergency protocols you should initiate them. I am going to check it out what happened. Call the police and if possible get your employees and customer to a safe location." Hourman steps out of the office and heads where the explosion occurred. Hour-ManTuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Lytell's Department Store "Emergency protocols? You mean an evacuation plan? In case of fire, yes. Excuse me - we'll get right on it!" Thomas Lytell said. But Hour-Man beat him out of the room. He left the back offices and out onto the public part of the 4th floor. There were a couple of tipped over shelving units and broken merchandise about, but not enough to account for an explosion that loud. It had to have been on one of the lower floors. Hopping four steps at a time, Hour-Man made it down the escalator to the 3rd floor. There was much more than had been shaken and tipped over up here, but still no sign of an explosion. He took the next escalator down, which was inoperative. On the 2nd floor he found what he was looking for. The 2nd floor was half-decimated and burning. Even the floor looked structurally unsafe. There was one obvious casualty, an older man, a few women who were dead or dying on the floor, plus injured staff and crying babies. Hour-Man also spotted someone suspicious -- a man who was dressed normal, but was wearing a white leather aviator's helmet with a black star on the forehead, and dark goggles.

Captain Desmo's ears rang for an instant and he was sure that the explosion was none other than the insidious actions of the assassins - perhaps this masked man with the yellow cape. Seeing the impending disaster, he quickly got ahold of his senses. "Quick everyone out!" yelled Captain Desmo trying to look calm and authoritative. "The roof's going to collapse!" For what he thought was a while but was actually only a minute or two, he helped usher people trying to get out the doors in a mad panic. But then he suddenly thought of his Auntie Marie, and for an instant his heart stopped. Quickly, he pushed his way through the crowds, much like a strong and determined fish migrating upstream, and dashed for the escalators to take him up in the direction of the Men's Department on the third floor to rescue Marie. Captain DesmoTuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Lytell's Department Store Captain Desmo was the first one on the ground floor to recover his wits, and just as well, for there were easily three dozen staff and customers just within line-of-sight of him, all in danger. He and the formerly belligerent doorman were now working like a team to get people out, and they got 5 people out the front door when Captain Desmo had that scary thought about "Auntie" Marie. The escalator was no longer working, but he could take it like stairs three steps at a time. As he neared the top, the escalator shifted and Captain Desmo had to catch himself or be thrown over the side ((made a DEX check)). Once on the second floor he saw this had to have been the epicenter of the blast, not the third floor. The 2nd floor was half-decimated and burning. The floor looked structurally unsafe, but not as bad as it looked from underneath. There was one obvious casualty, an older man, a few women who were dead or dying on the floor, plus injured staff and crying babies. Captain Desmo also spotted someone suspicious -- the man in the yellow cape! He also wore a black mask over the top half of his face and a yellow hood over his mask. He wore a black leotard over yellow tights, with a red belt across his waist. His black boots had red stripes, as the cape did along the bottom. If he was an assassin, he was the most attention-seeking assassin ever!

Hourman looks at the aviator man and thinks to himself " a normal human would be brash and attack this aviator or accuse him of this. But civilians are at stake".
Hour-man calmly says to the aviator man, " I am not sure if you are responsible for this or have any problems with this store, but can we get these people out of harms way? If you are a mystery-man like myself, then lets rescue these people. I can try to do something about the fire and maybe bracing the floor if you can start moving these people."
Hourman looks for ceiling fire sprinklers or a way to turn them on. He also glances to see about some way of bracing the floor. He heard stories about Superman using his strength to temporary brace a damaged bridge so a train can pass unharmed.

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man
Tuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Lytell's Department Store
The following exchange happened:
Hour-man: "I am not sure if you are responsible for this or have any problems with this store, but can we get these people out of harms way?"
Captain Desmo: "I am not sure who you are, but I need to check on one particular person on the third floor."
Hour-Man: "If you are a mystery-man like myself, then lets rescue these people."
Captain Desmo: "A mysteryman? Like in the pulp novels?"
Hour-Man: "I can try to do something about the fire and maybe bracing the floor if you can start moving these people."
Captain Desmo: "But I'm trying to-- fine, it looks like this floor got hit worse. I'll help you out here, then head up."
The building did have fire sprinklers, but they were poorly placed and were only hitting about half the fire with water. While that half was going to extinguish on its own soon, the fire looked like it could spread through the toys section and hit other areas. Hour-Man found a fire extinguisher and started dousing the growing blaze.
Meanwhile, Captain Desmo found the stairs and started lifting the injured onto his back and carrying them down the stairs one person at a time. People from the upper floors were passing him, but he did not see Marie - she was either still up there or he had missed her when she went down. By the time he had moved his fifth person, he met firemen on the ground floor who had already arrived to help.
The biggest remaining danger was the ceiling between the second and first floors, as it looked like it was weakened to the point of getting ready to collapse. The ceiling was 16' high, so finding a way to brace the ceiling was going to be tricky... ((ideas?))

Hourman thinks quickly and sees if this is a department store then there might be a hardware department. If so they would have tools. He then looks to see how much of an area he needs to temporarly cover. HE says to the stranger, " i have an idea of the ceiling. I am going to try something. " Now he needs wood or metal. Whether it is office desks or doors. If he finds this then to move quickly he activates his hour of power and activates race the train to move quickly. If he needs to carry heavy strength then he will activate the raise the car power. The goal is to gather the material and quickly board up the ceiling.

Desmo didn't have time to think about the yellow-caped black masked hero, but had a good hunch from what little was said that they were both fighters against injustice. "Alright," he says to himself. "This guy thinks he can handle the ceiling. I don't know how... but I've got to step up this rescue effort."
"Hey," he calls loudly to the fireman. "Get your men up there right away! The 2nd floor is about to give! A yellow-caped hero is working on bracing it, so just hurry up and rescue the people and give him a hand. Stack tables or whatever he asks you to do. I'll check the 3rd floor quickly, and be back to give you a hand."

Hour-ManTuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Lytell's Department Store First Floor ((Buffed with Race the Train and Raise Car)) Hour-Man went through the furniture department, throwing everything big into a stack. To make it as structurally sound as possible, he started with the biggest, widest things on the bottom - so first display beds, then added couches, then chairs. He got the pile 10' high, still 6' shy of the ceiling, but it was looking precarious. That was when the concrete in the ceiling lost its structural integrity. Huge chunks of concrete, heavy enough to kill a man if it fell on one from 10' above, fell 6' onto the chairs. It broke all the chairs, but it broke up the concrete more too, and it tumbled down Hour-Man's tower rather than raining like deadly missiles. Some of the firemen racing around were pelted with debris, but only enough to hurt them, not killing anyone.

Captain DesmoTuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Lytell's Department Store Third Floor Captain Desmo passed some smartly dressed people, probably the store's office workers, on the stairwell as they headed down. "The fourth floor is fully evacuated," one of them told him, not questioning his queer headgear and perhaps mistaking him for a fireman. It was quiet up on the third floor. Was this floor fully evacuated already too? No, and it wasn't silent either - was that a child's voice? Captain Desmo made a thorough sweep of the floor, but focused on the men's section. There was no sign of Marie; she must have passed him when he wasn't in the stairwell, thankfully. And his thorough sweep of the third floor proved invaluable. A 40-year old woman was pinned under a tipped-over clothing rack. The blow had either knocked her unconscious or just rendered her stunned. A 4-year old boy was beside himself with worry, trying to get her to wake up. "Wake up, mommy! Wake up!"

"Great Scott," exclaimed Captain Desmo, and quickly raced over to help pull the rack off the woman, while telling the boy, "It's going to be okay son." If he was able to lift the clothing rack, he quickly checks to see if she is still alive and picks her up saying to the boy, "Come on, let's get your mommy some help." And... they head downstairs...

Realizing this temp fix did not work, Hour-man yells down, " this place may collapse everyone needs to get out of here. " He activates his Neigh-invulnerable skin to protect himself and Using his speed he does a quick floor by floor to get people evacuated. IF there is a bathroom department with a tub or a outdoor department with a sled or canoe, he will try to put people in them and then cart them out IF any are trapped or pinned he will use his enhanced strength. When he carries people out he will try to shield them with his strength.

Captain Desmo and Hour-ManTuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Lytell's Department Store Third Floor The rack was too heavy for Captain Desmo to move. However, he could lift it partway. It did not take long to think of finding something else heavy he could use to prop it up after lifting it, but he needed someone who could move while he was lifting, or vice versa. If only that boy was bigger and stronger, or if Hobbs or Gabby were here... Meanwhile, Hour-Man was racing around the building. Although things looked pretty bleak on the ground floor, that was because of the damage the explosion had caused to the ceiling of the first floor/floor of the second floor. The upper levels had been rattled, but floors three and four appeared safe and the structural integrity of the building as a whole did not appear to have been compromised. The fourth floor was already evacuated. On the third floor, Hour-Man found the mysteryman with the aviator's helmet trying to help an unconscious woman trapped under a heavy rack. A four-year old boy ran to hide on seeing Hour-Man's outfit.

HOurman comes over " here let me give you a hand." He helps move the shelf. Once the woman is helped he says, " hey little boy if this is your mom she is safe. We need to get out here."

"Thank goodness you came!" said Desmo. "I'm Captain Desmo. I'll follow along - and help anyone I can. Later, I'd like to talk. I think I know who is behind this evil bombing. Maybe together we can stop them with my assistant..."
As he rushes along (and probably can't keep up with Hourman), Desmo continues to furtively look for his "Auntie" Marie on the lower levels.

Captain Desmo and Hour-ManTuesday, May 2, 1940 Appleton City Lytell's Department Store The boy wouldn't come to Hour-Man, but by making the boy back away from him he was able to herd the boy towards Captain Desmo. "That's my mom," the boy confirmed, but to Captain Desmo instead of Hour-Man. They took the stairs safely down to the ground floor and exited with the unconscious mother. Paramedics were already on the scene and took her at once. Outside was an ambulance, two firetrucks, and three police cars. All of the staff were there and half the customers, plus a huge crowd of curious passerbys, gawkers, and onlookers. Some injured people were still being examined at the ambulance (a second ambulance had, apparently, already left with more). This seemed like a good time for Captain Desmo to mention his theory, and for them to compare notes...

Desmo tried to get the boy to ride on the ambulance with the kindly ambulance staff and his mother. (If that didn't work, I guess Desmo will be stuck babysitting a while...) Then Desmo turned to Hour-Man to properly introduce himself and explain why he is in the big city.
"You say your name is Hour-Man?" said Desmo swaggering over to the yellow-caped man quietly where they can't be overheard. "Well, met! I can see you are on the side of justice as am I. Until recently, I did the same kind of work as you in India, but in the British Empire of India and in parts of Mongolia. There, I was in constant battle with my arch-enemy and criminal mastermind Bilguun Ankim, a one-time Genghis of Mongolia, I was able to depose two years ago."
"My associate and I came across a secret message addressed explicitly to this Bilguun Ankim in a hideout of an assassin group called 'the Society' in Calcutta," continued Desmo.
He showed the note to Hour-Man: "Your instructions are to go to the United States. Discover the true identity of Captain Desmo. Kill anyone whose life has meaning to him. This is the fate of those who cross the Society."
"I flew myself and my assistant to the city recently - which is where I'm from, and I've been struggling to keep a low profile and protect everyone I know here," said Desmo. "But I can certainly say this heinous and un-American act looks like the dastardly deed of none other than Bilguun Ankim. But by the looks of it, he has a lot more targets that me and my loved ones and friends. That's the information, I have so far. What do you say we make a hero team and try to route out this evil together?"
Desmo continued to keep a keen eye out for his "Auntie" Marie, and planned to call both Jack and Hobbes after talking to Hour-Man.
