Captain Desmo and Hour-Man (and Hawkgirl) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Flatiron District Bentley Wholesalers 12:00-12:05 am
Hour-Man had found no fire escape behind the short, two-story building. There were no stores to buy rope at midnight. Luckily, Hour-Man remembered he had rope in the trunk of his car (it's on your equipment list). It was easy for Hawkgirl to fly up, tie the rope on the roof, and Hour-Man to rappel up the side to the roof. En route, his cape hung curiously parallel to the building, as if being pulled back, while if a passing observer had tilted his head, he might have sworn Hour-Man was simply walking on a horizontal surface made to look like a wall...
"Are you Captain Desmond?" one of the hoodlums asked.
Captain Desmo was taken aback, both by them getting his name wrong, but also by them assuming anyone else would show up here at this particular time of night, wearing aviator goggles. "What are ya waitin' for, an invitation? Get in here!" barked the other one.
Captain Desmo asked to see Marie first. The hoodlums seemed confused by that. How inexperienced could these kidnappers be?
After a minute of confused haggling, Desmo convinced them that, for this to be a proper prisoner exchange, they had to bring Marie out now. One of the two men agreed to go in and fetch her. The other one stayed here and said, "You talk way too much. Once you're inside, you better learn to button that lip of yours."
Meanwhile, on the roof, Hour-Man and Hawkgirl had avoided detection so far. They had opened the roof access door and found it opened onto a back stairwell that led down to a door on the second floor landing, plus an interior and exterior door on the ground floor. The stairwell was empty, but they could hear the sound of music, like over the radio, coming from the second floor door.

Hourman leaves the roof door opened and asks hawkgirl to keep an eye on the captain. If there is a combat in front of the door to intervene. otherwise when she sees maria is safe and the exchange takes place, to notify Hourman and to come down to this door and join with Hourman. Meanwhile Hourman will creep up to the 2nd floor door and listen.

As Desmo passed Marie, he gave her a wary smile and quietly said,"Marie, keep walking straight on 3rd Avenue and Bader will find you. Don't worry, I'll be fine here." Desmo makes a point of puffing extra large smoke rings at the guards on purpose. As he entered the building, he tried to keep an eye out for details that might help his escape.

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man (and Hawkgirl) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Flatiron District Bentley Wholesalers 12:10 am
Marie was indeed led out past Captain Desmo, looking scared and a little disheveled, but otherwise unhurt. She seemed too scared to even respond to Captain Desmo, other than a quick nod, before running away.
"Why don't ya take off yer hat and stay awhile?" one of the two hoodlums asked mockingly as they led him inside, but neither moved to forcibly remove Captain Desmo's enigmatic headgear.
The front room was very familiar to CD from his earlier visit yesterday. They led him through the door in the barrier between the front and the back halves of the room, but this time took the extra precaution of locking it. They then went through the back door at the back of the back room, into unknown territory, and took Captain Desmo with them.
The next room was bigger, 20'x30', with a 10' section that wrapped around the front room like a stubby upside-down L. This room was lit by four hanging lightbulbs suspended from the ceiling on wires, and the room was sectioned off by six square pillars. Most of this space was filled with boxes and crates marked with various merchandise inside.
There was also a third man waiting in this room, standing behind a chair, holding a roll of duct tape. Again, Captain Desmo did not recognize this man, but he was a lean, angry-looking man in nicer clothes, and had the air of someone more in charge about him. "It's about time," this man said. "Get him in the chair. We're to tie him up until you-know-who gets here."
Meanwhile, Hour-Man had listened at the upstairs door for a full minute, thinking the room was empty of people and just had a left on radio in it, when he heard a door open, a flip switched, light flooded under the door jam, and someone yawn loudly.
Chancing it, Hour-Man tried to open the door a crack for a look. On the other side was a room decorated like a spartan living room, with a couch and a cabinet with a radio atop it, and a table and chair between the two. A man with a cigarette dangling from his lower lip was unslinging a shoulder holster to throw on the couch when he happened to glance up to see Hour-Man peeking back at him.
"Who's there?" the almost-a-gunman asked.

on the roof the plan was for Hawkgirl to watch and make sure the exchange with Desmo and marie went off safely. Then she should enter the roof door and be right next to hourman. Then Hourman charges forward in attempt to subdue the man quietly. Hopefully the radio will muffle the sound of combat
( move to try to knock the man over, not using any powers)

Desmo will wait for an opportunity when the hoodlums are out of the room, and see if he can worm his way to fish out the hidden knife in his boot and use it to cut his bindings and try and get out of here.

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man (and Hawkgirl) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Flatiron District Bentley Wholesalers 12:12 am
((Turn 1: )) With Hawkgirl behind him, Hour-Man rushed into the room to tackle the hoodlum. At the same time, the hoodlum drew a sap from out of his pocket and tried to club Hour-Man with it. The attack missed, but it made Hour-Man dodge out of the way and keep from tackling the hoodlum right away like he'd wanted to.
((Turn 2: )) On a second pass, Hour-Man managed to trip the hoodlum and knock him to the floor, right next to the couch. Hawkgirl was in the fight with him too now and she tried to kick the hoodlum while he was down, but missed.
"Help! Help!" the hoodlum managed to cry out.
Meanwhile,
Captain Desmo was tied securely to the chair with duct tape. He was still waiting for his opportunity to escape because, while two hoodlums had left the room, one remained with him. His guard, one of the two hoodlums from outside, settled in, using a crate like a chair and lit himself a cigarette.
((No one in Desmo's room hears the shouting from upstairs.))

Captain Desmo whistled the famous classic "Blues Skies" which Jack sometimes plays him on piano. "Say pal," blurted out Desmo trying to get the guard nice and distracted to open up some opportunity - Desmo's not sure what yet. "Are you a fan of music? Irving Berlin wrote that. You know him? Oh, he's a good fellow. One of the great pop song writers. Say if you had a ukulele, I could teach it too you..."

Captain Desmo and Hour-Man (and Hawkgirl) Wednesday, May 3, 1940 Appleton City Flatiron District Bentley Wholesalers 12:15 am
((Turn 3: )) Hour-Man got up and ran to the radio to turn up the volume, just as "Yes We Have No Bananas" started playing.
The hoodlum also took the opportunity to get up, but Hawkgirl was right there and held an unsheathed machete close to him. "I'd stay put and stay quiet if I were you," she threatened.
((Turn 4: ))But instead of being properly intimidated, the hoodlum looked like he was going to try and grab Hawkgirl and wrest the machete away from her. Hour-Man and Hawkgirl weren't having that and they teamed up to grapple the hoodlum first. This time, combined, they slammed him to the ground hard enough to knock the wind out of him ((3 dmg)) and pinned him there.
"What did I say about you staying put?" Hawkgirl asked.
But just then, a second hoodlum - shorter, with a mustache -- appeared at the door. "Hey, who are you clowns?" he asked, as he drew a switchblade.
((Turn 5: )) Hawkgirl showed him her machete. The second hoodlum mentally compared sizes, and decided to turn around and retreat.
"Hey, don't leave me!" the first hoodlum whined piteously.
Leaving Hawkgirl with their prisoner, Hour-Man sprinted into the next room -- a bedroom with two beds and two footlockers, Hour-Man caught up to the hoodlum as he threw open the lid of his footlocker, perhaps looking for a better weapon...
Meanwhile, the hoodlum guarding Captain Desmo was unmoved by Irving Berlin's catchy melody. "I think it stinks," he said. "And why are they playing the radio so loud upstairs?" he suddenly interjected while staring at the ceiling. Captain Desmo could hear it now too. "They know I hate that!"
Seeing an opportunity to seize, Captain Desmo talked up how the man should go up there and teach them a lesson, but subtly enough to make the man think it was his idea. It worked.
"Stay right there," the guard said, but confidently, as if Captain Desmo didn't have a choice, and then the guard vanished behind another door at the rear of this room.

The Captain smiled to himself and had a good feeling the loud music meant good news with Hour-Man and Hawkgirl. He quickly took the opportunity to try and pull out the knife from his boot (with two hands duck taped together). If he retrieves it, he will cut himself free and head in the direction of the radio to escape with the others and sneak attack the hoodlum to knock him out.
