Having had enough of this hoo-ha, Agent Murphy pulled out his identification as a Federal Agent and shouted, pointing his pistol at the man. "F.B.I., freeze, put your hands above your head now!" The suspect realized he was caught and froze in place. He slowly raised his hands as Agent Murphy ran over to him, but when Murphy got there, the man pulled the same innocent routine the other guy had pulled. "Is there a problem, officer...?" he asked. Agent Murphy did a quick frisk of his prisoner. The drivers license said this was George Opitz. He wore a .38 in a shoulder holster. He had a matchbook and pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket, and a key ring in his pants pocket. "Did I do something wrong...?" George Opitz asked, testing Agent Murphy's resolve. (( rolls: 1, 4))

Realizing that spell failed howard says "wow that trick normally works for kids. I am sorry to ask this but Veronica, my assistant was a little embarrased to ask this but she lost one of her eerings in Sid's dressing room. I am sorry for the subterfuge but it was her grandmothers and she really want it found. If you just escort me in and help me look we can be out in no time. Help me out and I will include in the show tomorrow night." "Aw..." Chris said. He scratched the back of his head while he struggled between his orders and his innate goodness. "I guess it wouldn't hurt if you just need to get her earrings out..." Chris did not think to question why Veronica's earrings would be in Sid's dressing room. Instead, he unlocked the door and watched patiently from the doorway as Howard looked around the room for the next 10 minutes. He was not finding anything just looking randomly. "You sure she left them in here...?" Chris asked, getting suspicious. (( roll: 3)) ((If there's somewhere specific, or something specific you're looking for, I'll give you more chances))

"We have mutual friends and they sent me to talk to you," The Leading Man said. "Perhaps we could find a table...?" The Leading Man stepped through the doorway and conspicuously did not give his overcoat to the check girl; a private eye did not care or know about such niceties. Henri let The Leading Man get whatever drink he wanted. Henri wanted a vermouth blanc. "Sid Manly, he is ... dead?" Henri said after The Leading Man finally shared that with him. "I cannot believe it. Sid? No, it makes no sense. C'est...it is crazy, n'est-ce pas? You see...I will tell you a little secret, mon ami. The reason I missed tonight's show, the reason I have been staying here late tonight..." Henri leaned forward and whispered his secret. "My wife, I think she means to kill me."

He then proceeded to put handcuffs on the suspect and using a police call box requested a squad car.

Howard checks around at the actors dressing table and also see if there was a shell casing or any notes behind a book case/shelf. He comments , "veronica was showing Sid a new slight of hand trick and she accidentally dropped it. With those circular earrings they can roll around.

The Leading Man ordered scotch and water, on the rocks, hold the rocks, hold the water. After Henri's confession, The Leading Man furrowed his brow. "Why would she want to do that? You seem a likeable enough fellow. If I were you I'd be worried about who else might be trying to kill you. But let's start with your wife. What's her beef? I'd sure like to keep you alive and so would our mutual friends. So let me see if I can help." The Leading Man knew it was his role to get tied up in Henri and his wife's affairs. It was unlikely he could finish his mission if he did not. So he latched right onto Deselles's story.

"Your under arrest for suspicion of treason, your coming downtown with me and answer some questions." He then proceeded to put handcuffs on the suspect and using a police call box requested a squad car. Minneapolis Police Station Plymouth Avenue, Minneapolis By that evening, Agent Rick Murphy had met with Police Chief Matthew Kaepernick and had his credentials confirmed. "Glad to have you on board, Agent Murphy," Chief Kaepernick said with a firm handshake. "We need you here. A lot. I've lost 117 officers to the draft so far since this blamed war started. Between you and me, my officers are all green hands. Three years ago, they would have still been in training." Chief Kaepernick was glad to let Rick take the lead in interrogating the prisoner, George Opitz. "Just leave no marks on him," was the only condition Kaepernick gave him. Luckily, Rick didn't have to go that far (heck, so far, he still hadn't needed to bust out his secret identity of a superhero on this trip!). George was ready to sing like a canary. "Look, I'm with the Silver Shirts. I was supposed to get a message at the train station from that guy you were arresting. Well, not directly. I was supposed to pick up a crossword puzzle he'd leave directions for me on at the newsstand. It's up to me to keep our local members safe! Not only are a lot of people against us these days, but the Berman Gang has been terrorizing us and trying to chase us out of town." Rick pressed him on the plot to sabotage the train station. "Yeah, I heard about that, but I've had nothing to do with planning it. It's that other guy, Kevin Dufour, you want!" George said, referring to the one Rick let get away. Chief Kaepernick was able to clear up a few of those points for Rick privately afterwards. "The Silver Shirts is a local pro-Nazi organization. They were bigger before the war; frankly, I didn't think there were any of them left now. I know about the Berman Gang. They were bad news before the war. Their leader is Davie the Jew. He joined the Canadian Army so he could go fight Hitler. His gang has been keeping a lower profile since he left and, frankly, I haven't the manpower to take them in anyway."

He did find something behind the books on a book shelf, though. It was a pillow case -- and it did have powder burns on it around a big hole blown straight through it. That explained how the shot had been muffled! And there was also...yes, inside the pillow case was a short, wiry, black hair. It looked like a chimp hair!

So he latched right onto Deselles's story. Henri would not talk more about it right away. He wanted to talk about French film history all of a sudden and quizzed "Liam" on his almost non-existent knowledge of it. Which was fine, because Henri seemed to enjoy being the bigger expert on the subject. He waxed euphorically on his favorite films for about the next hour while they enjoyed more drinks. The hard liquor had the same effect on The Leading Man's synthetic organs that it would have on an ordinary person; he was a little tipsy by now. Finally, Henri was ready to leave. On the way out, Henri finally said what "Liam" had been waiting to hear. "I think she iz wanting to kill me because...she iz seeing another man, and wants me out of the picture. D'accord? What you say, the two of us, we go home and finally confront her on it?"

Call me at the hotel I am staying at and leave a message there if I'm not there." (After that Rick will leave for the train station that night but arrive as Captain Avenger.)

They were out the door and headed, "Liam" guessed, to Henri's car. "If I get you outta this stew alive, you have to agree to come with me to someplace safer than this burg."

Howard picks the pillow up carefully to not disturbing the burn marks or destroying the hole. He places the chimp hair on the pillow and says to the night watchmen" please call the police. There has been a break in the case to sid's death. After that call the ventriloquist and his chimp and have them come back to the theater. Tell them there has been a break in their dressing room. I know this is a lot but we just solved this murder."
(Ooc this changes if the the ventriloquist is here then the conversation changes. )
Also Howard will try to have Veronica either go home or go back in.

(But first he will make a visit to the Berman Gang) It was 8 o'clock when Agent Rick Murphy found himself standing outside the M & R Auto Body Shop on Fifth Avenue. The sign out front said the place was closed for the night, but there were still lights on in the garage. Chief Kaepernick said he thought that was because this was Berman's biggest gambling den in town at night, though he could never get enough proof for a raid. There was a front door to the office here, a side door to the garage, and three car bay doors in the front of the garage. Plus there were windows he could check. Rick also had to decide if this was a job for a lone FBI agent...or if it was time for Captain Avenger to debut.
