I've currently a list of 21 spells of the third level for magic-users -- I want to cull it down to 18. How about helping me pick the three that go?
1. Clairaudience/-voyance 2. Create Food and Water 3. Dispel Magic 4. Fireball 5. Fly 6. Haste 7. Improved Locate Object (longer range, and can move 50% faster to reach it) 8. Invisibility Sphere 9. Lightning Bolt 10. Mass Poof (1-4 targets are teleported 30-60' away) 11. Melting Things (lets you wreck like a 2nd level superhero) 12. Minor Creation 13. Minor Image 14. Minor Telekinesis (makes up to 90 lbs. move, or 45 lbs. float around) 15. Nondetection (in addition to blocking you from divination spells, others have to save vs. spells to recognize you visually) 16. Protection from Normal Missiles 17. Remove Curse 18. Rope Trick 19. Smoke Image (weaker form of Project Image; can only project into a cloud of smoke) 20. Summon Mobster II 21. Wall of Water (save vs. science or take drowning damage while pushing through)

Maybe Create Food and Water could be handled within Minor Creation?
Is there much of a precedent in the comics for Rope Trick?
And could Remove Curse be handled within Dispel Magic?

1. Arcane Eye 2. Charm Mobster 3. Confusion 4. Control Water 5. Cure Serious Wounds 6. Dimension Door 7. Fly Sphere 8. Gaseous Form 9. Hallucinatory Terrain 10. Improved Sleep (can target 1 victim at extremely long range) 11. Mage's Sword 12. Major Item 13. Massmorph 14. Neutralize Poison 15. Plant Growth 16. Polymorph 17. Project Image 18. Speak with Plants 19. Summon Mobster III 20. Turn Sticks to Snakes 21. Wall of Fire or Ice

Is there a way to combine Plant Growth and Speak with Plants into one spell?
Is Dimension Door different enough from Mass Poof? Feels like a lot of overlap there.
Maybe file Massmorph as an option under Polymorph. Or Neutralize Poison under Cure Serious Wounds.

I agree with Rons concerning most of the Level 3 and 4 spells- one could easily codify Minor Creation so that "food, water and other perishable items last until naturally degraded"...
Mass Poof and Dimension Door seem pretty similar...Dispel Magic could also Remove Curse, so just pick which mechanic you want and go for it...it wouldn't be unlikely that a Cure spell could either a)Cure Wounds or b)Neutralize Poison as needed.
Fireball, Lightning Bolt and even Ray of Frost or Cone of Cold could be rolled up into one Elemental Burst spell-just choose the same damage mechanic for each, note the form (ray, burst, cone etc) and effects(lightning, cold etc) as sub-forms of the same spell-if you feel this makes the spell too powerful then have the MU choose which form of the spell to memorize...
Rolling Plant Growth and Speak with Plants shouldn't improve the raw power of the spell that much, and Sticks to Snakes seems like a spell-researched variant of a Summon Mobster spell.

Thanks, guys! I appreciate all the advice. I'm amused that, on the Facebook group, people are telling me "don't cut, add more" and here people are telling me "cut deep, combine spells".
