He succeeded in doing both but due to the fact that he was the only success the program was scrapped and now Lt. The child was a quick student but a misfire of a spell accidentally sent Howard to earth in 1940. Howard went to chicago and tried to adapt to his surroundings. He saw a stage magician perform for kids at a play which gave him the idea of performing magic to make a living. He starts his act but accidentally became involved in an adventure in Elgin, Illinois. He teamed up with the Gray Condor and the Omega Archer in stopping some mobsters. He liked the hero act but realized performing magic was more entertaining. He later met Veronica , a street girl who had a habit of "working the audience" especially with slight of hand. He takes her in and they become an act. Now they are in Minneapolis and St paul performing shows. Howard, now the Cabalist, likes this gig but also liked being a hero. He also wants to find his mother, hopefully she is alive, and also to try to get her to become free of her master. Witchcraft has its price in that her soul must be kept by her master.

Orpheus Jack
Real Name: Andrew Montgomery Race: Human Class: Superhero Level: 1 XP: 0 Alignment: Lawful
Str: 13 Int: 13 Wis: 8 Con: 10 Dex: 13 Chr: 12
HP: 9 AC: 9
Equipment $1,010
Harley Davidson (90)
3 Bedroom Apartment (30/month) Barn on 1 Acre in the Country (500)
Background Jack Montgomery was a legend. Bootlegger, womanizer, and all-around scoundrel. Minneapolis PD always said he was the slipperiest character they'd ever tried, and failed, to put away. But, in 1943, cancer did what the law never could and caught Jack. Put him in a hospital bed, rapidly wasting away.
Two floors up, in the same hospital, Jack's nephew, Andrew, lay dying as well. Andrew had been born sick and never really recovered. The doctors said it was a miracle he'd lasted as long as he did. But now his time had come. Then the strangest thing happened. Jack's body finally gave out, but his spirit turned out to be just as sneaky in death as it had been in life. Seizing on the blood connection, he joined himself to Andrew's body.
The doctors were at a loss to explain Andrew's rapid reversal of health. One day he'd been at death's door, and the next he was up and about and ready to leave the hospital. Andrew didn't understand it himself, not yet, but he seized on his good fortune with pure joy.
A week later, Jack revealed his presence to Andrew. The boy had never met his uncle, but had heard stories about the family's black sheep. It didn't take long for him to figure out that the spirit inside him was every bit the rascal legend had made him out to be.
But, whatever Jack's faults, Andrew couldn't deny that his uncle had given him his life. He'd never felt so good, so strong. He found that he could even do... unbelievable things. Things people shouldn't be able to do...
Despite Jack's protests, Andrew tried to enlist in the military to go fight against the Nazis. But it was not to be. Paperwork had already been filed related to his sickness and he was no longer eligible for service. Andrew wanted to help in some way, need to help. Inspired by radio broadcasts recounting the exploits of heroes fighting crime in big cities like New York, Andrew decided he'd take matters into his own hands and do his part here at home.

The Leading Man Real Name: Lee Plantagenet Race: Android Class: Superhero Level: 1 XP: 0 Alignment: Lawful Str: 15 Int: 14 Wis: 17 Con: 12 Dex: 12 Chr: 11 HP: 14 AC: 7 Special Abilities 1 1st level power Melt Things Fiery Jet +2 Saving Throw against poison gas Vulnerabilities Water, Nitrogen, Lack of Oxygen Equipment 4 3-Piece Suits (64) 12 dress shirts (24) 2 pairs leather dress shoes (14) Hat (4) Raincoat (8) 4 pairs slacks (16) Tuxedo (25) 2 sweaters (6) Shoes (3) Suitcase (12) Winter coat (12) Hat and gloves (6) Galoshes (1) Lighter (1) Pen knife (1) $503 Lee Plantagenet had a birthday: July 4, 1919. Lee Plantagenet had a birthplace: Liberty, Missouri. That’s what it said on his publicity biography and that’s what Lee told anybody who cared to ask those questions and Lee had clear memories of that date and that place. He did not know that it was strange to have a specific memory of every day of your life including your birthdate. But nobody knew who Lee Plantagenet was. His publicity biography was moldering in an old file cabinet somewhere on the Paramount Studios lot. That file cabinet still bore its faded and cracked label on one drawer: Saracen Studios: New Talent Recruitment. And Lee’s biography was in that drawer, under P of course. But Lee Plantagenet did not really have a birthday; at least not in the sense that he was birthed by any woman. And, lacking a birthday, he did not technically have a birthplace. Unbeknownst to him, Lee had become operational in Burbank, California on September 13, 1935, a Friday. Lee had literally been designed and built as the ideal matinee idol. His creator was the enigmatic and eccentric Vincent Saracen (real name Timothy Smith). Vincent/Timothy was the founder, owner, chief and lone shareholder, and creative director of Saracen Studios. During the silent era Saracen Studios had been a significant player in the movie business. But then Saracen Studios failed to keep up in the talkie era and fell into hard times, especially after the Depression hit. In a last bid to salvage his studio, Saracen sank his last thousands into designing and building a perfect movie star: Lee Plantagenet had a perfect name with just the right blend of All-American manliness and British class, a perfect All-American birthday, a perfect All-American birthplace, a perfect All-American smile, and a perfect All-American baritone. Saracen explained to Lee that he was in rehearsals before he would get his big break. Lee spent his time at the Burbank Saracen Studio lot practicing for his future roles as wise-cracking but charming scamp with a heart-of-gold, swashbuckling and nimble-footed hero, and classy and good-hearted love interest. One day Saracen did not show up to check on Lee. Then several days went by. Lee knew he needed to keep practicing and training so he did just that. Saracen Studios went into arrears on its payments in 1936. Then it spent one year in limbo while the courts and creditors sought Vincent Saracen. Then it took another year before Vincent Saracen was declared legally dead and the holdings of Saracen Studios were set to be sold at auction. This was January 13, 1939, a Friday. When the auction house staff showed up at the Saracen lot they found Lee Plantagenet practicing a scene from It Happened One Night. The staff swore it was better than Gable had done it. Of course Lee had had years to rehearse. Everything was sold off, thus the filing cabinet with Lee’s biography on the Paramount Lot (other drawers had more useful labels like Scripts and Scandals). Lee hung around the lot while the auctioneers worked and when the building and land itself were bought by an outfit called MOVIES, Lee hung around then too. He learned MOVIES stood for Ministry of Opportune Vigilance Interdicting Extraordinary Syndicates. And soon they figured out Lee was something other than a slightly naïve wannabe actor. Unable to convince Lee otherwise, however, MOVIES HQ is forced to convince him in various ways to show up where they need him. Then his mechanisms kick in and he becomes...

Gorlock is from the Planet Durla. He escaped from the dreadful 6 Minute War in a crystalline pod whilst in stasis, arriving to Earth only after his pod crashed through a mobster's hideaway in Minnesota. The mobsters attacked Gorlock, thinking him a monster (his natural form is a mass of green tentacles!). He easily dispatched them using Alien Martial Arts & blasts of Alpha Radiation, a byproduct of the radiation ort clouds he passed though in his voyage though the stars. Quickly gathering what he could from the wreckage, he first consulted the records of the original explorers of this Planet Earth. He would need currency and clothing or surely be out of place. And after a lengthy interrogation of the mobsters, he has learned the basics of human society. He used his innate power to shapeshift into the visage of the lead mobster, he changed a few details as to not be a spitting copy. Gorlock found that the radiation cloud he'd passed though was affecting this ability... he could only change back and forth between his natural form and this one currently. Perhaps that would change in the future. Gathering up the criminals in the middle of the ruined sanctum, Gorlock tied them up and grabbed the keys to a "car". It was a primitive thing and easily mastered.
He was hungry. Maybe he could find some of this "fried chicken", Baatarch the Elder had enjoyed so much during his scouting mission...
His superhero form will be his Alien shape.
Gorlock is fond of junk food and alien women. He was a peace officer of sorts on Durlan. He is of the Futurist Durlans, but isn't concerned about much other than himself. He believes that his home world is destroyed and has no interest in restoring the Durlan genome.
Durla is a desert planet, with high levels of radiation. A harsh place where the natives evolved chameleon-like abilities of shape change. Because of this they were distrusted by other alien races. They had visited Earth in the past and even had masqueraded as Greek gods. Earth was known as a refuge from those who'd had difficulty on the home world, as well as a resting place for Durlan travelers seeking solace from other alien races bent on their destruction. There's a good chance that legends of doppelgangers could have sprung from Durlan encounters.

Extended background for Durla, Durlans & specifically Gorlock.
The Planet Durla:
While mostly desert, this heavily irradiated world bears little in common with Earth. Tidally locked, one side is perpetually night while the other is perpetually day. The native race the Durlans have constantly feuded for the land bordering the light and the dark side. Since crystals are in abundance on the planet, various arrays were set up between the light and dark side to funnel light and energy to the other side. The 6 Minute War had much to do with the two most powerful factions escalating over such energies. Water is not in heavy abundance on the surface, especially on the light side of the planet, but subterranean sources were fairly common. Plant life was more fungoid than vegetal. Most larger animal life derived what moisture from heavily hunting other animal life, causing it to be a very savage place to live.
Durlans:
The most prolific race, the Durlans, have used crystalline technologies and focused radiation to visit the stars. They have also developed dimensional transport, but it is costly for them. They have visited Earth in the past as previously mentioned. They are abhorred and distrusted by many alien races as their shape shifting powers allow them to impersonate other aliens with little error. Since some Durlans have a loose moral code, this has led them to be hunted on occasion by other alien races. They are quick to pick on nuances in dialect, habits and social interactions. They have been called xenophobic at times as well. The average lifespan for a nonmurdered Durlan is around 600 Earth years.
Gorlock:
Was a member of a policing body of Durlans and in the days before the war, planned his escape. He lived near the light/dark border and helped to keep the peace between the two tribes of Durlan. If it weren't for his having a pulse on these events, he would've never been able to requisition the crystalline pod he used to escape. He is currently unsure of the span of time that has passed in his travels. He does know that he passed through some heavily irradiated zones of space, and both his pod and him were both affected. How affected? Who knows. Gorlock was able to calibrate his modular transducer to detect other alien genomes on Earth. He has been following its signal as to find allies, Durlan always needed allies, as to not be hunted by some of the other more unforgiving alien races.

Durlan Dictionary
Grinklefrog - Crystal desert native animal, furry frog like creatures that are especially tasty fried. With Lasers. On a stick.
Blevin - Moisture gland laden land fish. A good source of vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. Easily hunted.
Zergtog - Prolific xenomorphic hunters, about the size of an Earth pit bull. Illegally kept for back alley fighting.
Blachtard - A Durlan that eats his family to gain their strength. Frowned upon by the general population after they had to put down Merla the Gluttonous, who once had a large family. Once. Interesting fact: Now a common, yet vulgar insult on Durla.
