April 22, 1941, Tuesday Toledo, Ohio Alan Scott, known to the world as Green Lantern, sat in his rented room in the Belle Hotel, a five-story building at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and St. Clair Street. He had been down at the street level bar, Carney's, for a celebratory drink earlier. He also had a telegram from his girlfriend back in New York, Irene Miller, who wanted to know if Alan was interested in investing in an upstate steel mill. But, before Alan could decide how best to respond to Irene, he had these wands to investigate. Each of the three sticks appeared at a casual glance to be no more than slender wands of ivory, but Alan was aware that the tiny runes etched onto their surfaces endowed them with magic power -- not unlike the magic railman's lamp sitting on the table in front of Alan, which glowed with an intense green the more he concentrated on it. Alan held the wands, one by one, over the magic lamp and concentrated on being able to "read" the magic within them. And, as he did so, words came into his mind... Wand #1: Charm Person...Sleep... Wand #2: Charm Person...Invisibility... Wand #3: Charm Person...Sleep...Invisibility... The invisible magicians had foolishly toyed with the Justice Society, leaving their most powerful spells uncast! --- Research Notes: www.oldwestendtoledo.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57&Itemid=80

Green Lantern picked up the spellbook they had found on their first expedition under Klaver Mansion. He knew he had two options with a spellbook: he could use the spells once from the book and they would disappear, like out of a wand; or he could let his magic lamp absorb the spells from the book, and then he would be able to use those spells any time he prepared them.
The book was called How to Raise Zombies, and most of it was written in poor English and made no sense. Perhaps it was written in a sort of code, or only something a madman would understand. Ah well, Green Lantern knew he could magically decode this text if he wanted to.
The important pages were in magical script towards the middle of the book. Almost hidden in the text were the instructions for casting a Charm Person spell and a Hold Portal spell. There were other pages after that -- but they had been torn out of the book -- before the doggerel continued with a recipe for brain stew that zombies were supposed to enjoy...

I want to inquire how the powers of my lantern work. Are my once a day spells changeable?

Changing out of his Green Lantern garb and into some pajamas for the night, Alan kept his mind busy thinking about how his magic lantern worked...
((This is a good question, as there's something complex I've done with GL's lantern that we haven't discussed yet. As I statted it, it serves the dual purpose of a Magic-User's wand and a miscellaneous magic item. As per its wand functions, it can be used to help GL prepare spells of your choosing. As per its magic item functions, it has 3 specific spells/powers that are unchangeable (these being what I perceive to be GL's "go-to" powers in his early stories).))

Thanks for the info. Will the powers of the lantern "grow" as he does? Meaning will it get more one shot powers each level?

((Green Lantern's ability to control the lantern's magic, and shape it into specific spells, will grow, but that is covered by the game mechanics of being the Magic-User class. The bonus spells, from the lantern being a magic item, were just "cheats" to make sure you could do the things GL did in the comic books right away, at his current level.))
