So is there anything you want to spill about the forthcoming second edition Scott? How's it progressing? Anything you want to tell us about differences with the current one?

Well, since you asked...
I had a writing partner on 2nd edition who has dropped out of contact with me, and I put the project on hiatus myself to put 1st ed. into POD and finish Supp V first. I would say the writing is somewhere between 1/4 - 1/3 done on the project. When I do go back to the project soon, I have to figure out if my partner is coming back, if he'll let me use what we've done so far, or if I have to start over on my own.
As for how it will be different, I think a careful reading of the Larcenous Lexicon blog will turn up all kinds of hints.
Check this space for more updates, though!

This may be a silly question-but when you started the first H&H it seemed to me you were deliberately channelling the OD&D format, with later Supplements seeming to emulate Greyhawk and similar enhancements(different-sided Hit Dice, new Classes , etc)...was this indeed deliberate, an artifact of the S&W layout or am I simply completely off target here? And would that make your next Edition your AD&D, with more hard-coded rules and all the extra content in a similar 3-book set? You have my deepest sympathies concerning your writing partner-all of the people who are trying to form my new group are on 'flexible' schedules(including myself) and trying to get everybody in the game at once may well be 'When the Stars are Right'. At least with two Editors and two PCs per Player to alternate between we might get a 'JSA Roll Call' rolling playtest going... I'll be awaiting the Updates with bated breath ( i'll Bait it as well if you think it might help ). 3032

I shouldn't answer that question too directly...but yes, there was a lot of direct inspiration guiding the development of H&H, from the 3 core rulebooks, to the supplements, to the record sheet, and even down to some article choices in The Trophy Case.
The next edition will streamline and replace some of the previous rules and will be presented as a "basic" book, maybe for levels 1-4. Then I plan on expanding on that in a more, "advanced", you might call it, direction, with a book just of mobsters. We're probably now looking at 2017 for that Mobster Manual, though.

Considering my D&D favorites were the Moldvay Basic, followed by a houseruled Holmes and later the S&W Whitebox, that's the best news i've heard all week! A pity it delays the Mobster book so long-but I can always make up my own or fine-tune an OGL one...which reminds me, I need some Morlocks- (crosses out Orc, writes Morlock on the entry) -oh, and some Mirror Demons for the Funhouse- (takes Shadow entry, changes Str drain to Cha drain, changes Defense to "only hit by silver, magic or the victims whose faces they are stealing" writes "Mirror Demon" across the top and calls it Done). Can't wait to see the Streamlined Edition! 311 330

It took me long enough to master the formatting necessary for Print On Demand. Now I have to learn how to make boxed sets? Then I'd have to become my own distributor as well...
It sounds like a lot of work. Might have to take on more partners! Like Order99, and rope him into working on that Mobster Manual. I like the sound of those mirror demons!

Consider anything I post on this site Open Content and freely donated-least I can do in gratitude for such an awesome game! Be warned, nearly all of the Mobsters ('Mashers'in the popular Argot) will be Gothic, Faerie or Vernian Steampulp in nature... Oh, and Black Anne and I are already disagreeing about Vampires-She may end up doing 'The Undead Brood of Accursed Judas Iscariot' and i'm leaning towards 'Traditional Thirsty Corpse that weakens in daylight(with 1d6 Random Blessings from the Devil to reflect the Folktales). I really don't want to have to wrestle her for it again, so we might end up with 'A Tale of Two Draculas'... 2347
