I've only ran one game of H&H. It was the reason I found H&H in the first place. I wanted to run a JSA game for some good friends of mine when we got together for our latest once-a-year gaming get together. I settled on H&H because of it being set specifically on the Golden Age and the fact that I've recently come to believe that games based on the original D&D mechanics can cover any genre. Scott did a great job with H&H for this.
The game I ran was set in no specific time other than the 'early 40's'. The JSA roster I picked wasn't one that was from any given era, just certain heroes that I thought would work well together and that I thought my players would want to play: Hourman, Green Lantern, the Atom, Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Bat-Man, the Flash and Sandman.
I used the stats that Scott put into Supplement IV only adapting Dr. Fate from a Magic User/Superhero to a straight M/U(a 10th level M/U with the magic items listed proved to be quite powerful enough). The Atom was a pretty straight forward fighter. Hourman was a superhero with the limitations you would expect. Hawkman was a fighter/scientist that I found written up on a blog, the name of which escapes me know.
The villain was Vandal Savage, who aided by an unseen Per Degaton, had rounded up an army of time-displaced warriors from Ghengis Khan's army, Viking berserkers from the 9th century, and a few Roman Legionnaires. Of course Savage had a set of powered armor that was made to look like 16th century plate armor and a sword that carried an electrical charge. His base of operations was a castle i upstate New York.
The game started at the regular JSA meeting, when Superman crashed through the wall and attacked them! Once the JSAers came out of their initial shock and were able to overcome him, they quickly figured out he was a flawed simulacrum of the original!
This was designed to be run as a one shot, so I allowed the players some leeway in their detective work to sniff out where the super-clone came from. It involved Bat-Man radioing Alfred back at Wayne manor and his accessing Bats' crime files.
Anyway, they eventually found The castle, and battled Savage in his armor, his time soldiers and a Giant Robot!
A good time was had by all, the action moved quickly, thanks to the H&H system. Hopefully soon I'll be able to convince my regular group to play a session and then hopefully someone else will want to run it so I can play!
I welcome any questions you guys may have and hopefully some of you guys will spill some of the details of your games!
