"So much for talking our way out of this..." Golden Boy said as he finally waded into the battle. He tried to line up a smashing right hook that would take Gronk down.
"Moon Girl, you need to listen to Emergency Girl and take it easy!"

Seeing this turn into a grand melee, SPEHR quickly accesses the situation to make sure innocents are all right. He then sees the big bear grappling the main adversary. Seeing the main villain' henchman beat up the other trainees, SPEHR moves over to take that bad guy down. He sees the henchman has multiple arms that possibly could not be natural so for his action he will use his flame blast and try to "wreck at range the arms" if possible

Golden Boy easily and simply bonks Gronk on the head as he runs by (rolling an 18!) and his 5pts of damage is more than enough to leave Gronk flat on the ground with all four limbs splayed out to his side and his impossibly long tongue hanging out of his frog mouth. "*gronnk*" he manages to croak out before going unconscious. Moon Girl jumps off his back and proceeds to start kicking the unconscious alien until Golden Boy picks her up and sets her aside with a stern admonition to "settle down" before she injures herself again. She rubs her arm ruefully and grudgingly admits that she may have overdone it already. "You THINK?!" shouts Emergency Girl from the sidelines.
SPEHR seems to be having trouble with his optical sensors. Sloorn, the orange skinned alien with the elastic arms, has only two arms. No one on the scene, except for Squid Kid--who has not yet decided to join the free for all, has multiple limbs. His flaming blast goes wide, not striking anything but (morale roll) Sloorn is sufficiently startled by the fiery jet that just missed his entirely natural arm that he loses his grip on Encyclopedia Boy's mouth. Dezmon 7 immediately shouts, "His eyes and ears! Bright lights in his eyes or a really loud sound will disorient him!"
"Fleekin' Grozz!" cusses Mykko in Argonian. Having had enough of Ollie's bear-hug, Mykko leaps 18' straight up, tucks his body and rolls so that he will land flat on his back, on Ollie. Ollie has the choice of letting go and trying to save to reduce the damage he takes from the fall, or holding on and hoping he can take the damage and maintain his grip. (Morale!) [Natural 20.] Ollie ain't scared of nothing! He grits his teeth and clenches his arms even tighter. He takes 3 damage when they hit, +1 more for having Mykko land on top of him, but Ollie has 6 hp so...he grunts in pain, but does not let go. "Nobody, No-thing breaks Bear-Hug Boy's bear hug, ya' ugly spuzz!" He shouts through clenched teeth. "Frozz fleekin' gimmle Grozz!" froths Mykko, who is prone this turn and at a -4 penalty.

Golden Boy couldn't help but admire Bear-Hug Boy's courage. He couldn't let that boy keep facing Mykko alone.
"Form of...aluminum!" Golden Boy said, and his body transformed into solid aluminum.
As buffed as he could make himself, Golden Boy waded in to battle again ((activating Get Tough, and hoping to take advantage of the proneness!))

Mykko struggles to his feet, dragging the bruised Ollie with him. His expression is grim, he seems to be concentrating, focusing his power... But first Golden Boy lets swing with a round house to his chin, (rolls a 15, which would hit without the +6 he currently has--Mykko is struggling to get up and still counts as prone for this round) It's a solid hit! doing 6 pts of damage. Mykko is down to 5pts! There is a look of bewilderment turning to anger on Mykko's face. "That HURT! That really, actually HURT!" He snarls very nastily. Kangaroo Kid leaps in for another kick (also getting the +4 bonus this turn) His 11 would means he makes contact, but can't kick hard enough to hurt Mykko through his Bulletproof Skin.
Mykko opts for a Multi-Attack, to try to thin out the number of attackers confronting him. He slams his head back into Ollie's face. (doing 5 pts of damage) Ollie's eyes roll up as blood gushes from his broken nose. His Hold is broken as he slumps unconscious to the ground. Mykko grabs Kangaroo Kid, intending to throw him at SPEHR, who has not attacked him directly but who has scared his remaining henchman and whose hand is still wreathed with fire from his Wreck Things attempt. He snatches Groven out of the air and whips him by his tail into SPEHR, doing 5 pts of damage to both of them. Kangaroo Kid is out on the ground. SPEHR is unhappy, down 5 pts, but there is no outward sign as he stands his ground, unmoved by the weight striking him. The Android's eyes glow with an alarming fiery intensity. "Just you and me now, Goldilocks!" Mykko sneers. Golden Boy swings (now with a +2 instead of +6--but rolls a 14 and easily hits.) His uppercut knocks Mykko into the air, causing him to somersault several yards away before landing hard. (6pts) Mykko should have gone with Nigh Invulnerable Skin first, it seems!
"Looks like it's just me, now." Liw observes as the crowd of applicants cheers.
SPEHR, denied the opportunity to strike back at the Argonian, turns his attention back to Sloorn, who goes down fast, in a charred, writhing heap.
Kangaroo Kid is out and needs medical assistance. Ollie is out and will need some facial reconstruction. Kloot is on his feet but still wobbly (with only two remaining hit points). Memory Boy can barely stand, (having 1 hit point left). Encyclopedia Boy is thrilled to be alive and is jumping up and down making an undignified squealing noise. Moon Girl is cradling her injured arm. (her antics have cost her 1 hp worth of renewed damage). Emergency Girl breaks out her field medical kit. She's already used her once a day (at this level) Healing ability, but she is still a trained EMT and starts tending to the injured.

( roll to wreck at range)

SPEHR flexes and rolls his head. He's down about a third of his hit points, though there is no obvious visible damage. Something feels loose inside his chest, and there is a squeaking sound every time he turns his head.
Meanwhile, somebody nearby points at the sky and shouts, "LOOK!" A huge, gleaming metal spaceship looking something like a fat saucer on top of a cylindrical rocket is dropping out of the sky at an alarming speed. Just before it would crash into the ground, the rockets fire, blasting the landing zone with glowing plasma. There is a shudder as the ship lands. The saucer descends down the length of the central rocket until it is resting on the ground. The nose of the rocket is now a tower rising from the center of the saucer. Holographic fireworks and beams of light explode around the spacecraft as steam and smoke curl up from its burnished hull. The Tomorrow is HERE! Drones come swarming out, calling for Pantheon applicants to form an orderly line and hold up their identicards and applications. The drones fly about, scanning quickly and signaling which applicants may approach the ship for tryouts with spotlight beams. Golden Boy and SPEHR are both approved to come forward and join the tryout line. Kangaroo Kid and Bear-Hug Boy are in no shape for tryouts and are being carried away in ambulances. Memory Boy, Encyclopedia Boy, Horn Boy, and Moon Girl are all approved to approach the ship. Emergency Girl likewise is approved, but says that she will take a later place in line. She wants to make sure the injured are loaded up and taken care of first. Barely one in twenty would be applicants are passed to join the tryout line. There are a lot of disappointed groans and some angry shouts. The lucky ones in line are filled with nervous energy and jitters. There are a lot of giggles and chatter.

"NOW, they get here," Golden Boy grumbled, realizing that the Legion members probably missed the most amazing moment of his young life so far.
But that moment passed and he was soon excited to be standing in line next to a ...robot? He looked the robot up and down. "Are robots eligible to join? I mean...hi, my name is Golden Boy. Maybe you're from a world where robots are the indigenous life form? That would be different, I'll say!"

The Current Pantheon Members in a nutshell: JUPITER BOY is the Star Quarterback. He's handsome, smart, could date any girl he wanted, so he only wants the one girl that he can never have--Ultragirl. He's a leader and he knows it. Easy to envy, but he's just such a darn nice guy it's hard to dislike him. Pushes everyone hard, and pushes himself harder. GRAVITY GIRL is the Popular Girl. She's smart, straight A material, comes from a wealthy family, is talented and beautiful and everyone wants to be her friend, and she knows it. Total Princess. Nice, but condescending. Nobody is in her league, except for maybe Jupiter Boy, and he doesn't even seem to notice her. (she's been friend-zoned!). CLONE BOY is the Loyal Friend, the Buddy who backs up his pals whenever it's needed. He's likable, good natured, but is a copycat, not an innovator. He shows signs of still suffering PTSD from the Malfatron Incident. LAUGHING BOY is the Class Clown. Everything is a joke to him. He's funny, most of the time, easy to get along with. But he has boundary issues, often makes jokes that are inappropriate, and can never quite take anything seriously. He can manipulate emotions in other ways than laughter, but he genuinely doesn't like and feels uncomfortable with negative emotions and avoids them at all costs. The smiley symbol on his chest is actually a micro-thin screen that is animated. The face can go from smiling to unhappy to sad to kissy to scared, depending on what feelings he's trying to project. Almost always is smiley. BRAIN BOY is the Class Genius, the smartest guy in the room, in ANY room. And he knows it. Impatient with those less intelligent than himself (IE: just about everyone). He is thoughtful and tries not to be arrogant, but sometimes just can't help it. Has secret crush on Gravity Girl that absolutely everyone knows about. He's the only one that thinks it's a secret. TELEGIRL knows everything there is to know about you. She knows you better than you know yourself. Sweet, understanding, considerate--she keeps everybody's secrets and is everybody's close confidant and adviser. She knows exactly what you think of her, but is too tactful to say anything. You have been totally Friend-Zoned by her, but most people take it well, since she is very gentle about letting admirers down. She's the conscience of the Pantheon. GHOST GIRL is the Quiet Girl that nobody knows very well. You always forget that she's around, mostly because her body is locked in her room and her ghostly form is partially submerged in the wall behind you. Telegirl is her only close friend, though she likes Laughing Boy and might have a crush on him, not that anyone could tell for sure--but she does smile at him when he's not looking. They are all celebrities, so their general character is common knowledge.

How the Tryouts are going. The Pantheon are tough judges. You see a lot of upset or tearful faces, even more hangdog dejected looking would-be heroes leaving the ship, their dreams of glory crushed.
Memory Boy goes in, holding a chillpak to his bruised cheek. He identifies himself as the son of a Harem girl in the mystic realm of Carcosa. His older sister Lethe Darza applied to and joined the Pantheon last year, but sacrificed herself to save them all, he is here to commemorate her and carry on her legacy. Jupiter Boy: "Lethe? Amnesia Girl? I don't recall ever even meeting somebody by that name, let alone fighting beside them on missions. Brain Boy?" Brain Boy: "Never heard of her." Laughing Boy: "Guess that's why they call her Amneeeesia Girl!" *everybody laughs* Telegirl says nothing but frowns. She seems to be concentrating on Mnemon.
For his demonstration, he selects Jupiter Boy, tells everyone he is going to make JB forget everything he's said up to now. He gestures and a faint yellow beam fires from his forehead, striking Jupiter Boy. Jupiter Boy, rubs his face and blinks. "So, applicant, it says here that your name is Mnemon Darza, and you call yourself Memory Boy. Well, what can you do?" Mnemon beams, smiling triumphantly and gestures to the others. "There! You can see how effective my Mnemonic Void Ray is!" the others frown and cough politely. "When are you going to demonstrate your powers?" Brain Boy asks. Everyone looks at him intently. "I...I just did!" Frowns. Head shakes. "We haven't seen anything yet." "But you have! I just made Jupiter Boy forget meeting me and going through the application interview!" "We're doing the interview right now. I don't know what you mean." Gravity Girl says, a little miffed. "But..." "so. Demonstrate your power." "But... I already did. I can only use my Mnemonic Void Ray once a day, so far. I'm...practicing and training...but..." "So. You have nothing to show us? NEXT!" The rejection vote is almost unanimous. Only Telegirl doesn't vote "NO". She abstains, saying that Mnemon truly believes what he is saying, though she doesn't remember any demonstration herself." "Great." Gravity Girl mutters. "That just proves that he might be delusional, as well as powerless. NEXT!"
Mnemon leaves the ship, shaking his head, trying to figure out what went wrong.

Encyclopedia Boy goes next. He dazzles everyone with his...encyclopedic knowledge, correctly answering every question put to him. But then Brain Boy gives hims a complicated equation to solve and all Dezmon can do is frown and stammer. "So. You know stuff. That's your entire superpower?" Gravity Girl says. "Brain Boy knows things. AND he can do equations, solve riddles, come up with inventions, actually USE all the knowledge that he has at his disposal for creative thinking. Why would we need another member who is just a poor imitation of a member we already have? NEXT!"
Horn Boy goes in. He presents the letter of recommendation that the Frontier Service gave him for saving a family of explorers from Space Monsters on a barely explored colony world. He has another certificate from a Commodities Exchange Satellite where he thwarted an attempted robbery but head-butting the robbers, despite them being armed and shooting at him as he unexpectedly charged out of the crowd. "Very impressive!" Jupiter Boy says with a smile. "You certainly have spirit, and courage. A hero needs those things. Quite promising." Then Kloot attempts to Wreck Things by hitting them with his head. The door breaks when he charges it. And he knocks the sparring robot down, denting it, but does not Wreck anything else. "Let me see if we've got this right." Clone Boy says. "Your only 'power' is an anatomical feature that everyone on your planet has? So, basically, you're just a runaway teen without any extraordinary abilities whatsoever?" "um..." "NEXT!"
Moon Girl goes in, and things do not go well. Despite having copious recommendations and commendations and even tri-vid of her in action (She's a 2nd Level Superhero with a wide range of abilities. Mostly super strength, invulnerability, flight, and "moonbeams" that she shoots from her eyes.) she is unable to demonstrate any super ability at all, or even manifest one. "Young lady, it is a serious criminal offense to present falsified applications to the Pantheon! We are duly appointed deputies with law enforcement powers granted by the Planetary Union. This is a serious matter. I don't think you understand how much trouble you are in!" "But..." Jupiter Boy raises his hand, cutting off any further scolding from Brain Boy. "Look. We understand that you want to join us. It's probably a dream you've held on to for a long time. But we just can't let an unpowered teen wander about in our headquarters, let alone go on missions. You could get injured." "Or KILLED! Which really, really hurts!" Clone Boy adds. "Why don't you just go home and we'll forget about this whole incident. We won't be pressing any charges." Mella gets foot stamping angry, shouting that she DOES have superpowers and she doesn't know why she can't use any of them right now and this is totally unfair and... "RoboGuard Twelve, please show this young lady out." She comes past you sobbing uncontrollably and cussing under her breath.
With trepidation, you realize it YOUR turn next! What will you say or do to impress this panel of tough judges?

SPEHR stops for a second to get a look at the situation. He is not that beat up and is still in decent shape. He makes a decision he is " over his head" with these groups and decides to leave. He says to the man called golden boy, " looks like they have enough heroes. Time to go back being a solo hero instead. " SPEHR leaves

Golden Boy stepped up and gulped. There were his heroes in front of him! Although...he had more heroes now than he had an hour ago...
"Hello, I am Golden Boy, from the Mars Colony. As you can see, I transformed my body into aluminum, giving me extra toughness and strength. And as you know, this isn't an ability common to people on Mars. Rather, I inherited this from my grandfather, Golden Man, the last of the superheroes from two generations ago.
"But, before I demonstrate anything...I would like to speak out for the heroes who cannot show you what they can do. Before these tryouts, we were attacked by super-bullies, led by Mykko Molok. Moon Girl exhausted her powers fighting him, and two very brave heroes who led the fight against them -- Kangaroo Boy and Bear-Hug Boy -- were too injured in the fight to make it to try-outs. I would ask you to give them special consideration, and reschedule them for tryouts once they've recovered."
Golden Boy paused and looked from face to face, to see what his heroes would say next.

Jupiter Boy stood and looked thoughtful for a few moments. "Mykko Molok is a bad one." He said slowly. "Clone Boy and I went up against him not too long ago..." [in a riveting tale titled, "The Super Reform School Drop-Out" in Hi Octane Comics #...] "yeah. He was a tough cookie, alright." agreed Clone Boy. "Anyone who went up against him is a Hero, in my book." Jupiter Boy continued. "Of course we'll give them a chance to try out!" Gravity Girl frowned but didn't say anything. Laughing Boy applauded and Telegirl looked relieved. "It's the least we can do, since they come with the recommendation of the heir to such an illustrious Hero Legacy." Brain Boy added. "Golden Man was a member of the Round Table of Mars and one of the greatest champions from the Golden Age of Martian Heroes!" "Speaking of which..." Gravity Girl cut in. "Can we see what exactly you can do?" She raised a challenging eyebrow.
