"Doc, is my cousin going to be okay?" said Desmo. "Does he have amnesia?"

Rex moves over to Danny and his chart and says, " no sir he is just in shock and is coming back from surgery. He will realize where he is and who he is. Which Danny do you remember what happened. Even though my job is to save your life if there was foul play I will have to report this. Unless of course there is a reason not too?"

Hour-Man and Captain Hawkman Tuesday May 23, 1940, 8:46 am Philadelphia Philadelphia General Hospital
Rex had adressed both Desmo, in the room, for Danny's benefit, but also a nurse in the hallway who looked at him curiously. As Rex was closing the door to the room, he noticed a uniformed policeman come out of the restroom at the end of the hall. The policeman was busy flirting with the prettiest nurse in the hallway, who had just walked by him.
Meanwhile, Danny was going from agitated to confused. "I don't think I have any cousins I can't remember..." he said, but the possibility did seem to be making him concerned.
In answer to Rex's questions, as if Rex was a medical doctor, Danny said, "I was just working at my job when a stranger shot me. You can tell that cop he should be out looking for who shot me, not hanging around here to talk to me."
Rex heard "See you later!" out in the hallway, and it was likely the policeman signaling that his flirting was over. Instead of a detailed confession, it looked like they only had time to get one answer out of Danny (unless they had a plan to distract or fast talk the policeman?).

Desmo goes out to try and distract the officer. "Hey officer! Excuse me, sir," said Desmo. "I was wondering if you could help me. On the way up here to visit my cousin, I think I lost some money. I had kind a silver Phili souvenir coin I wanted to give to my Cousin. But, I think I must have dropped it or set it down somewhere. I could sure use an extra set of eyes to check the stairs and hall. You haven't seen it be any chance?"

Rex steps forward and says to Danny, " that is terrible. You said you were at your job who is your employer?. We would have to contact them since you are here and won't be working today and tomorrow? Plus we would also need their address too? Plus who else works with you, other friends?"

The officer looked annoyed at Desmo's interruption. He glanced at the door to Danny's room (he had not been looking this way and missed Desmo coming out of it), but said, "I can spare you a minute to help look."
Meanwhile, Danny listened to "Doctor" Tyler's questions and started answering them. "I work for a doctor myself, but she's not a medical doctor. Her name is Jill Arman - well, I don't answer to her directly. My direct ...supervisor, so to speak, is Vander McIntyre. The address is..."
Danny trailed off as his lucidity began to come back. "Gee, I must of lost a lot of blood to go babblin' like that. I don't have to tell you none of that as long as I can pay my bill, doc." And at that he clammed up.

Rex smiles and says " don't worry you will recover fine. Get some rest." Rex walks out back into the hallway and tries to see desmo. He holds up a coin and says, " hey buddy did you drop this."

"Oh super, thanks pal! I was really worried about that!" said Desmo. "Sorry to trouble you office. I'll give that to Danny next time we visit, but I want to let him sleep now."

The Heroes exited the hospital safely, without negative consequences for any of their ruses. But what did they do next with the sliver of new information they gleaned?

"Rex," said Desmo after they got out of the hospital. "Nice job. Really nice job. We've got to let the team know and see if we can get the goods on Jill Atman and Vander McIntyre. Come to think of it, what does Carl - not me - the real Carl know about them?"

((You do know how to get in touch with Carl. Is that what you do next, or does Hour-Man suggest something different first?))

Carl is the next person to talk to. Rex will also make any inquiries ( calling universities or maybe science contacts ) to see what he can about Jill Atman

Hour-Man and Captain Hawkman Tuesday May 23, 1940, 9:49 am Philadelphia Benny's Pool Hall
This is where Carl agreed to meet them, in a seedy pool hall downtown. The pool hall was not officially open until 1 pm, but the door was unlocked, as Carl said it would be. It was dark and smoky inside and the two heroes briefly considered the possibility that Carl had turned on them and set up an ambush here, but instead Carl was shooting pool alone and smoking while two guys were trying to fix the jukebox.
"Hey guys, come over here," Carl said loudly. He didn't speak again until they were right up close. "So that's what you two look like outta them fancy costumes," he said quietly. "No wonder ya dress up; yer a lot more intimidating that way. You said over the phone you needed more information about some things...
"Yeah, I answered to Vander McIntyre too," Carl said (in response to the obvious question). "We all did. I think he used to be a drill sergeant in the Army; he sure ran the operation like a drill sergeant. He has an office on the second floor of that building and I think some private quarters attached to it too. I don't know anything else about him other than what he looks like; my only interactions with him were being barked at go fetch things like I was a gopher for him."
He described Vander as tall, about 6'2", thin black hair on top, a thick black mustache, and usually had his sleeves rolled up to show how muscular his forearms were. He had a scar across his broken nose and one of his forearms had a tattoo of a knife on it.
"You got more questions for me?"
